As part of the 105th Foundation Day celebrations of Jamia Millia Islamia and the revival of its historic Talimi Mela, the Department of Social Work organized the S. R. Mohsini Memorial Lecture-cum-Panel Discussion on “Problems and Prospects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.”

The event concluded with the formal release of the Placement Brochures for the Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Arts in Human Resource Management (MA HRM) programmes. The release was graced by eminent dignitaries, including Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe (Chairman, NETF, NBA, and NAAC), Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar (Former Chairman, UGC), Prof. D. P. Agrawal (Former Chairman, UPSC), Prof. Mazhar Asif (Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia), Prof. Mahtab Alam Rizvi (Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia) Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas (NEP Apex Committee Chair, JMI) Prof. Ravindra Ramesh Patil (Head, Department of Social Work) Prof. Archana Dassi (Department of Social Work) among others.

The brochures showcase the department’s strong academic foundation, field-based learning model, and commitment to nurturing professionals equipped to address contemporary social and organizational challenges. The launch marks the commencement of the Placement Season 2025, inviting organizations, NGOs, and corporate partners to engage with the Department of Social Work's well-trained and socially sensitive graduates.

📌 Employability Workshop Series III:
“Interview and Group Discussion Skills”

The Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia, organized an insightful workshop on September 13, 2025, with Mr. Varun Sharma (Joint Advisor, Punjab Development Commission, Government of Punjab) as the guest speaker.

Mr. Varun used practical examples to help students develop essential skills for interviews and group discussions. The students learned how authenticity, clarity, confidence, empathy, and collaboration are key to professional success. Students also practiced active listening, respectful engagement, and strategic participation from one on one interview and group discussions.

We thank Prof. Ravindra Ramesh Patil (Head, Department of Social Work), Prof. Virendra Balaji Shahare (Director, Fieldwork and Placement), and Dr. Rubina Nusrat (Co-Director, Fieldwork and Placement) for their guidance and support.

Additionally we are grateful to Aamir Mustafa sir for being an essential part of this workshop.

On 2nd September 2025, the Department of Social Work, JMI, hosted an insightful session on Understanding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) led by Mr. Khurram Naayaab

The session highlighted the evolution of CSR in India, the legal framework under Section 135 of the Companies Act, and inspiring case studies from leading corporates. Students also engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the future of CSR, ESG integration, and aligning business with social good.

A heartfelt thanks to Khurram Naayaab sir for such an enriching session, and to our Placement Director Prof. Virendra Balaji Shahare and Co-Director Dr. Rubina Nusrat for their constant guidance and mentorship in arranging these valuable learning opportunities for the students.

Students of MA Human Resource Management (HRM), from the Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia, observed Anti-Ragging Week on 14th August 2025 under UGC guidelines, through a documentary screening and engaging discussions to spread awareness about the harmful impact of ragging.

The initiative reinforced the importance of building a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus.

Successful Completion of Skill Lab : Corporate Communication 🌟

The Department of Social Work at Jamia Millia Islamia proudly hosted Skill Lab for our MA HRM Semester-1 (Batch 2024–2026) students on Monday, 2nd December 2024. Led by the accomplished freelance trainer, Ms. Gulafshan Khan, the workshop delved deep into the essentials of corporate communication.

During the session, students engaged in enriching discussions and interactive activities that covered:
- Effective Communication Strategies
- Professional Etiquette and Punctuality
- Proper Use of Titles and Name Pronunciation
- Active Listening and Clear Expression, and much more.

The workshop not only enhanced their communication skills but also instilled confidence and professionalism essential for thriving in corporate environments.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Gulafshan Khan for her expertise and to all the students for making the event a grand success. Together, we are paving the way for future leaders in HR and corporate sectors!
