• To bring out the close contact among all the social work students/professionals of Uttar Pradesh having degree or masters in social work from any recognized department/institute from Uttar Pradesh.

• To undertake such activities that would promote acquisition of knowledge in the field of social work and other specialization under the social work degree.

It was a privilege to speak at the World Social Work Day 2025 webinar organised by the Department of Social Work, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in collaboration with the India Network of Professional Social Workers’ Associations (INPSWA) and the Association of Professional Social Workers in Uttar Pradesh(UPAPSW).

The webinar, titled "Intergenerational Solidarity for Environmental Challenges," highlighted the crucial role of social workers in fostering sustainability, justice and collective well-being through intergenerational collaboration.

As General Secretary of the Association of Professional Social Workers in Uttar Pradesh (UPAPSW), I emphasised the need to strengthen professional bodies in social work and their pivotal role in advancing the profession. Strengthening our collective voice and efforts is essential to tackling pressing social and environmental challenges.

AMU’s Department of Social Work Hosts Webinar on ‘Intergenerational Solidarity for Environmental Challenges’ to Mark World Social Work Day 2025
ALIGARH, March 19: The Department of Social Work at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the India Network of Professional Social Workers’ Associations (INPSWA) and the Association of Professional Social Workers in Uttar Pradesh (UPAPSW), organized a webinar titled “Intergenerational Solidarity for Environmental Challenges” to commemorate World Social Work Day.

The event highlighted the critical role of intergenerational collaboration in addressing environmental and social issues, emphasizing social workers' contributions to sustainability, justice, and collective well-being.

Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, delivered the welcome address, underscoring social work’s role in bridging generational divides and promoting sustainable practices. He commended the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) for its advocacy efforts through World Social Work Day in fostering global solidarity.

Prof. Gandhi Doss, President of INPSWA, lauded social workers' efforts in uniting generations and called for enhanced collaboration to address societal issues. Dr. Ipe Varghese, Secretary General of INPSWA, appreciated AMU’s initiative, stressing that a sustainable future depends on shared generational knowledge and action.

Dr. Prashant R. Chauhan, General Secretary of UPAPSW, highlighted the significance of World Social Work Day and the role of professional associations in advancing the field in India. The keynote speaker, Prof. K. Sekar, Consultant and Senior Professor (Psychiatric Social Work) at NIMHANS, Bangalore, delivered an insightful address on the intersection of climate change, mental health, and psychosocial support. He emphasized that intergenerational solidarity strengthens both environmental sustainability and mental resilience in the face of climate crises.

Earlier, Dr. Mohd Uzair, Convener of the webinar, introduced the 2025 theme, emphasizing the necessity of intergenerational solidarity in tackling contemporary challenges. The webinar concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Mohammad Tahir and Dr. Mohd Arif Khan, Assistant Professors at AMU’s Department of Social Work.

The event witnessed active participation from faculty members, including Dr. Qurratul Aien Ali, Dr. Shyna Saif, Dr. Andleeb, and Dr. Sameera Khanam, along with academicians, social work professionals, and students from across India.

I had the privilege of meeting Sri Bhuwaneshwar Kalita Ji, esteemed Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, at his residence. Our conversation touched on several pressing issues, including youth empowerment, sustainable development, and the need for active stakeholder engagement in shaping a Viksit Bharat. It was truly inspiring to exchange ideas with such a seasoned leader dedicated to national progress.
