TCP Connection in BGP 🚀
1️⃣ Establishing the Connection

BGP must establish a TCP connection between peers using TCP port 179. Initially, BGP establishes the TCP connection before sending any BGP messages.
2️⃣ Transmission Control Block (TCB)

A router maintains a Transmission Control Block (TCB) table to store information about each TCP connection.
What is TCB?
The Transmission Control Block (TCB) is a fundamental data structure used by the TCP protocol to store information about each active TCP connection.
3️⃣ 3-Way Handshake 🤝

To establish a TCP connection, the router performs a 3-way handshake by exchanging three TCP packets with the SYN, SYN-ACK, and ACK flags set.
4️⃣ Random Source Port Number 🎲

The device initiating the TCP connection uses a random source port number, while the destination device uses the BGP port number 179.
5️⃣ Message Exchange 📧

Once the TCP connection is established, the router will exchange other types of messages.
How Does TCP Select the Random Port Number? 🤔
1️⃣ The initiating device picks its random port number from a specific range (usually between 49152 and 65535).

2️⃣ To pick this number, it uses a method similar to rolling dice but more sophisticated. This method is called a pseudorandom number generator (PRNG). The PRNG ensures that the port number chosen is unpredictable and reduces the chances of port conflicts.

3️⃣ Algorithm Name: One common method used for generating this random port number is called the Linear Congruential Generator (LCG). LCG is like a complex mathematical formula that helps the device pick a random number quickly and efficiently.
