Are we designing research with communities or simply for them?
Research has the greatest potential for impact when the people it is designed to serve have a voice in shaping it.

At the Community Voice Panel at the BMJ Research Forum South Asia 2026, leading voices from public health, community research, rare diseases and patient advocacy will explore how meaningful community engagement can reshape research questions, strengthen implementation and translate evidence into better care and policy.

From patient-reported outcomes and satisfaction measures to community-based care and health-system priorities, the conversation will ask an essential question: Are we designing research with communities—or simply for them?

Join us for a powerful discussion on putting patients and communities at the heart of health research.

Panellist:

Chair and moderator: Dr Garg, Secretary, Kasturba Health Society; Director, Dr Sushila Nayar School of Public Health, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha, Maharashtra

Dr Kumar Arora: Chief Scientist & Mentor, The INCLEN Trust International; President, AIIMS Bilaspur, India

Dr Bang: Co-founder of SEARCH (Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health), Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.

Mr Prasanna Shirol: Co-founder and Executive Director of ORDI (Organization for Rare Diseases India)

Prof K Srinath Reddy: Honorary Distinguished Professor, PHFI & Chancellor of PHFI Institute of Public Health Sciences (Deemed to be University)

From evidence to implementation: How does research actually change healthcare?

Publishing research is only the beginning. The real impact comes when evidence moves beyond journals into clinical practice, health systems and policy.

At the BMJ Research Forum South Asia 2026, this session will explore the journey from research to real-world impact, using practical case studies, real-world evidence (RWE) and implementation science.

Expect insights on:

• Asking research questions that address real healthcare needs

• Securing funding and building support for impactful research

• Maintaining scientific rigour, ethics and research integrity

• Communicating evidence effectively to policymakers

• Understanding what enables — and what prevents — evidence from becoming policy and practice

• Building collaboration across researchers, clinicians, policymakers and healthcare leaders

Panellists:

Dr Soumya Swaminathan, FRS, Chair, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation

Dr Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Faridabad & Chief of Medical Services, Amrita, Kochi

Dr Vijay Agarwal Emeritus, Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO)
