Seminar Presentation
Presented by – Ms. Fiona Sarkar
Student of Department of History of Art, 4th Semester, IIH
Topic 1: Aesthetics and Politics of Sanitation: A Study of Tiles in Interwar Calcutta
Topic 2: Psychological Agency and the Feminine Subject in the Works of Bikash Bhattacharjee
With these seminars, preoccupations were turned into substantial research attempts.
One paper explored the vivid green Japanese Majolica tiles of Kolkata, along with their history, politics, and aesthetics. The other examined how women stand in the paintings of Bikash Bhattacharjee, as he takes on the alleged “male gaze.”
One analytical, the other argumentative, both helped extend my views and abilities as a student of art history.

Student of 4th Semester, Department of History of Art, IIH
Seminar 1 - The Architecture of Chitnavis Wada, Nagpur.
Seminar 2 - The Architecture of the Lakshmi-Narayan Temple, Nagpur.
Two seminarss that carried months of reading, research, site visits, notes, corrections, and constant reworking behind them.
More than anything, these seminars helped me understand architecture not just as structures, but as reflections of history, politics, patronage, and lived spaces.

The Department of History of Art, Indian Institute of Heritage, organised a two-day onsite workshop for first-semester History of Art students at the Archaeological Museum, Sanchi, and the State Museum, Vidisha on 21st December 2025.
During the field visit, students closely examined important sculptures, artefacts, and architectural fragments displayed in the museums. They also observed the stylistic features, iconography, and historical context of the objects, which helped them better understand early Indian art traditions and the cultural heritage of the region.
The workshop provided students with valuable practical exposure beyond the classroom, encouraging them to connect theoretical knowledge with real historical objects and museum practices.
