Meraki presents it's original 'Walk Away' by Parul Kumar ✨
WALK AWAY
Things between us
have not been the way I envisioned.
From late-night chats to
barely being just viewers of each other's stories,
the chemistry has changed.
No matter how much technology connects us all,
there are a few things that cannot be explained over text or call.
So he plans a lunch date.
Now we are walking down the street
after our so-called lunch, not date.
We are not holding hands as we stride
We are just walking parallelly,
with our palms touching each other slightly.
His light touch on my skin
feels like a feather.
But his dead silence all along
Is a hundred times heavier than that.
At this point, as I walk mindlessly beside him
my mind is not really made up at all.
I constantly muse over whether I like him
or just the idea of somebody like him.
Maybe he is thinking the same.
Still, in doubt, we walk past a garden.
And near the yellow Amaltas tree there,
he stops.
I notice the flowers on the tree.
Popping out bright yellow,
contrasting with the green leaves of the tree.
while a bunch of them lay fallen on the brown earth.
He picks up the one that lies fallen on the floor
And hands it over to me.
I try to feel it,
dry and withered it is,
Just like our dead conversations these days.
Later on, he finally says,
"Even nature discards the flowers,
that have served their purpose.
They bloomed for some time
but their days are numbered too.
It's called the art of letting go."
I read between the lines that he just said
and let go of the flower in my hand.
I smile at his compulsive face
And reply, "What a beautiful creation it is!
The flowers.
They bloom for someone else,
spread their sweet-smelling fragrance,
and then detach from their source
only to be buried and then grow again."
He chuckles at this,
we friendly hug each other.
And now we walk separately,
on our different pathways.
