Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) have predicted that the fourth wave may set in around June 22 and continue till October 24.

Predictions by the researchers have reportedly been near accurate during the last three times, with a deviation of only a few days. The team, conducted by the Sabara Parshad Rajeshbhai, Subhra Sankar Dhar and Shalabh of the department of mathematics and statistics of IIT-K, used a statistical model for their prediction and said that the fourth wave in India may arrive 936 days after the initial available date of the Covid-19 outbreak (January 30, 2020).

However, the severity of the wave, they said, will depend on the emergence of new variants, vaccination status, and administration of booster doses.

End of an era in Bihar politics as Ram Vilas Paswan passes away.

NEW DELHI : Veteran socialist leader from Bihar and founder of Lok Jansakti Party (LJP), Ram Vilas Paswan, died on Thursday in Delhi due to prolonged illness. The 73-year-old leader was among the senior most politicians from Bihar which is scheduled to witness assembly elections later this month.

Paswan was a member of the council of ministers in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and was the cabinet minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution. The veteran politician from the scheduled caste (SC) community from Hajipur in Bihar was legislator for more than 5 decades when he first became a member of legislative assembly Bihar in 1969.

Nobel Peace Prize awarded to World Food Programme

(CNN): This year's Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the World Food Programme (WFP) for its "efforts to combat hunger" and its "contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas."

The Norwegian Nobel Committee, which presented the award in Oslo on Friday, also described the organization as "a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict."

In awarding the prize, committee chair Berit Reiss-Andersen noted the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on global food supplies and criticized the politics of populism.
