AF LIBRARIES CONNECT. LEARN. INNOVATE. GROW TOGETHER!

We the Alliance Française network in India organised a three-day professional training programme, hosted by the Alliance Française de Pondichéry, from 20–22 July 2026.

The programme brought together 15 library professionals from across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, creating a vibrant platform for learning, networking, knowledge sharing and the exchange of best practices.

The training explored user engagement, communication, PMB, modern library spaces, AI, Culturethèque, digital services, and heritage preservation and digitisation.

Special thanks to the Director and team of Alliance Française de Pondichéry for their warm hospitality and excellent arrangements, and to the Director and team of the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP) for their valuable support and cooperation.

With great joy, I welcome all the teachers of the Lycées Français de and as we begin this new school year in September.

Being part of the AEFE - Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger community that shapes these four schools into such rich, international environments for learning is something I hold close to heart. My warmest congratulations to the teams for continuing to nurture excellence in French education, and my heartfelt wishes to everyone for a wonderful, fulfilling year ahead.

Three years ago today, India landed on the Moon.

It was Vikram Sarabhai’s dream, built by Indian scientists, carried on Indian engineering, and etched into history by ISRO. Today also marks National Space Day, India’s own tribute to that achievement.

And woven quietly through six decades of that journey, a French friendship: a chance meeting in Washington in 1962, and a rocket engine shared in 1974 that still flies inside ISRO’s launch vehicles today. France is proud to have stood beside it.

Thirty years after publication, Marie Ndiaye’s staggering book ‘The Witch’ has been shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. A living literary legend whose decades of work is slowly beginning to acquire global acclaim, Ndiaye deftly straddles the line between the magical and the mundane, bringing to the surface the dark underbelly of the human condition universal to all, but equally so,  hidden under social constraints.

In ‘The Witch’, she uses a simple conceit - the idea of a witch teaching her children her craft - to take the reader on a dizzying journey through a woman’s struggle to come to terms with a time of life in which she is abandoned by the people she has spent a lifetime serving, as she tries to make sense of who she might be without the anchors of womanhood to shape her.
