The stress, is just too much.
ECONOX, The Economics Society of College of Vocational Studies, under The Economic Summit 2.0, presents The Economic Strategem, a Policy Simulation event.
Take part in this Policy Simulation drama, and check out if you're cut out for the craziness that is Policy Drafting.
Only the toughest can take the pressure, can you?

STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY - STUDENTS OF ECONOMICS (Hons.)-Dyal Singh College
We the students of Economics (Hons.)-2020, Dyal Singh College, stand against DU's Online Open Book Exams.
After repeated and unequivocal attempts of students across this country, UGC and MHRD remain adamant on conducting this farce of an online exam.
One of the most monumental failures of this entire process that substantiate our stand is the recent ‘mockery’ of students’ hard work in the name of mock exams. 1.1 lakh students out of a total of 2 lakh final year students were able to register and out of these students only 26% were able to upload their answers, which is only 13% of the total students that were supposed to give the exam.
The figures speak for themselves- this is not just an exclusionary programme but a programme that caters to a miniscule class of the privileged minority.
Apart from that students faced unending obstacles on the portal- from none of the question papers corresponding to their course, to facing 'bad gateway' errors and the inability to upload documents. Adding to that,
We stand opposed to the guidelines of UGC making final year exams mandatory and condemn the deliberate silence of MHRD which seems to be taking further the systematically developed attack on publicly funded higher education.
The kind of statements that we get to hear from the officials of UGC on various interviews and briefings reflect a strange obsession with final exams somehow legitimizing the entire degree of the student. As a counter to this argument, we would like to say that there simply exists no such thing as a ‘final exam’ anymore. We would like to emphasize on the fact that when Universities across the country have been following a modular programme of semesterization (as mandated by the UGC itself) with all semesters having roughly equal weighting and with absolutely no extra weighting been accorded to the final semester, the idea of going through just one more semester (when we have already gone through five others) is a ridiculously farcical idea.
Moreover, it becomes obvious to understand the plight of students in the midst of continual postponements of exam being ordered making it extremely difficult to build up the momentum to study every time a new postponement notice comes (most of the times just days before the exam).
The OBE debacle must not be seen as a ‘one-off’ or an ‘isolated’ incident. It is simply an extension to the neoliberal model of education which had been manifested in NITI AYOG Vision Documents, New Education Policy 2019, and the Union Budget allocations which have been insistent on forcing down massive Privatisation and ‘Online Non-Classroom Learning and Evaluation’ much before the conditions of the pandemic developed.
This Exam will further exacerbate the fault lines along Class, caste, gender, and physical/mental ability between students as inaccessibility and constant anxiety among them threatens to plague the entire system. Adding to that, the threat of students (and their family members) suffering from Covid-19 is not an imagined outcome any longer. It has become a ground reality which must not be ignored.
The situation of CSCs which were supposed to remedy the problems of students who would not be able to give online exams from home is nothing but a cruel joke. Most of the CSCs were not even aware that exams were to be conducted there.
Despite outsourcing the web portal services to Amazon Web Services (another stepping stone in the direction of systematic privatisation of higher education), the institution was not able to make its portal accessible to students possessing internet connection anything below the spectrum of a high speed 4G connection.
We also condemn the recent stand taken by the DUSU towing the line of UGC and MHRD when it should ideally have supported the students of the University- students seeking employment and failing to do so because of the obstinacy of authorities, students having to tragically lose out on their admissions to foreign universities and students who have to just go through with the added anxiety of having online exams in trying times like these which could have been completely avoidable.
Students across the country have been unequivocally protesting and pleading against this decision on an unprecedented scale through democratic means whether physically or on social media.
And numerous states across the country have decided to cancel their respective state university exams, with the Delhi Government being the newest addition to the list.
We thus demand a complete cancellation of our semester exams, whether offline or online, and demand for immediate evaluation based on the results of our previous semesters.
The Struggle carries on!
