2019 Success Stories, Part 4:

For our undergraduate cycle of admissions, we are thrilled for Divyam Dang. A student of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram, he has gained admission to the following US, UK and Canadian universities, to study Computer Science at the undergraduate level: (1) University of Wisconsin-Madison, (2) University of California-San Diego, (3) Loughborough University, (4) Durham University, (5) McGill University, (6) University of Toronto, and (7) Brown University.

In addition to his academic achievements, Divyam has worked closely with coding and IT initiatives. He has interned with ‘Code Brew Labs’, a startup pertaining to Gaming, App Design and Website Development. Here, he researched on aspects of game and app development, design and structure, alongside brainstormed ideas for implementing new products in line with market demand. On other internships with startups like ‘Juggernaut’, Divyam has worked closely with aspects of logo design and branding for the organization, as well as utilized JavaScript towards building Android and iOS interfaces.

His self-initiative is commendable, as he has taken it upon himself to achieve working-level proficiency in several computer languages, beyond his school-curriculum training. With the help of ‘W3Schools Online Web Tutorials' and other MOOCs, he has received certification in: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Python, PHP, and JQuery.

Moreover, Divyam has been deeply committed to teaching and serving the community. Since 2018, he has taught Mathematics to elementary and middle-school students from disadvantaged backgrounds and with a low learning curve at the Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi. Here, he volunteered alongside a team of social workers and educational experts to develop course-curriculums for students in Science and Math.

WTS wishes Divyam success and good wishes on his journey ahead!

2019 Success Stories, Part 3:

For our undergraduate cycle of admissions, our hearty congratulations to Shreya Panda. A student of Sai International School in Bhubaneswar, she has gained admission to the following US universities to pursue a Liberal Arts education: (1) University of Wisconsin-Madison, (2) Boston University, (3) University of California, Santa Cruz, (4) University of California, Davis, (5) University of California, Irvine, and (6) Binghamton University.

In addition to her academic prowess, Shreya has been deeply involved in community service initiatives. She has worked towards tribal empowerment in the state of Odisha by her active participation in Project UDAY, a joint initiative of the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences and United Nations Population Fund. Here, she trained under a team of social science researchers to develop skill development and mentorship programs, to better integrate tribal communities into mainstream civic society. She also helped organize counselling workshops towards informing tribal communities on state-level welfare programs, as well as compiled the syllabi for 4 vocational training modules (papier-mâché, wood carving, terracotta and golden grass handicrafts).

She is particularly committed to helping the environment along with showcasing the detrimental effects of urbanization projects upon forested and tribal lands in Odisha. Her many endeavors vis-à-vis organizing clean-up drives, awareness treks and photo exhibitions, as well as engaging with student groups to protect the natural habitats of Olive Ridley Turtles in the region, is illustrative of this.

Wishing Shreya all our luck on her journey ahead!
