From Bimitrapur to the Heart of the Social Sector: A Glimpse into Prakash's Journey

Born in Bimitrapur, Orissa, Prakash's early years were imprinted with a desire to serve the nation and a passion for sports. Yet, it was martial arts that truly moulded Prakash's character, instilling discipline and determination.

A move to Mumbai in Prakash's teenage years presented a myriad of challenges, including the bustling pace of a metro city. It was here that Prakash felt the pull towards the social sector.

Although journalism became an initial choice after completing a Bachelor’s in Mass Media, Prakash’s perspective would change. A heart-wrenching railway accident made him realise the power of action over words, and he began to learn how social sector organisations made a difference through actions.

The Gandhi Fellowship marked a pivotal chapter in Prakash's life. In Ratangarh, despite initial cultural differences, Prakash pioneered the creation of digital smart classes across 5 villages. This hands-on experience reinforced the significance of community-driven change.

When the opportunity to work with TEA in Tripura presented itself, Prakash eagerly embraced it, championing quality education for all.

Through every turn, Prakash has exemplified adaptability, grit, and an unwavering resolve to drive positive change in society.

In India, literacy is a bridge to a brighter future, and an opportunity to break free from poverty. With this in mind, it is no surprise that the Government too, has laid emphasis on the importance of children attaining Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). TEA is committed to this cause, through its FLN programs in Madhya Pradesh and Tripura.

Today, on International Literacy Day 2023, we reflect on the theme, “Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies”. The last few years have seen the world face unforeseen hindrances to education and literacy. Now, more than ever, we need to bridge the gap, and give young children access to the best opportunities in life.

At TEA, this theme resonates strongly with our work, and today is just a reminder of why we do what we do in the field of literacy. We hope that in the coming years, as a society, we can create an ecosystem that ensures that all children in India attain literacy.

Teachers’ impact extends far beyond the confines of the classroom, as they impart valuable life lessons to their students throughout their educational journeys.

Our teachers have played an indispensable role in shaping our identities and influencing our present circumstances. On this occasion of Teachers’ Day, let’s pause to recognize and appreciate those educators whose teachings have gone above and beyond the confines of textbooks and curricula. They are the ones who have ignited our creative expression and facilitated the acquisition of knowledge that we possess today. On this Teachers’ Day, TEA extends warm wishes to all teachers.
