As we complete and celebrate 6 years of building Light Up (Emotions Matter Foundation), here are some key learnings shared by our founder Juhi Sharma

“💫 Trust your vision and continue to seek clarity on your end goals. It is an iterative process, a lonely journey, but persevere with conviction in your solution.

💫In an age of quick fixes and aggressive scaling, some of us have chosen to stick to building systems, an in-depth approach, and designing for scale. Very few players have chosen this path, and if you are one of them, stick it out and don't move an inch.

💫Working in high-trauma spaces requires a lot of emotional labour not only just for self but also for the team. Build wellness frameworks for yourself, your team, and your beneficiaries. The key is the sustainability of the organization and its people.

💫Grassroots work cannot be implemented and achieve its true potential if we don't bring inclusivity, intersectionality, and trauma-informed lenses. Prioritize the integration of these lenses in your solutions.

💫Ethical considerations while working for marginalized communities are key. The solution will never unlock its true worth without involving the community's and its people's voices.

💫Build authentic communities and genuine partnerships, civil society is the only space where the potential of collaboration can bring players together to fulfil larger challenges of the eco-system.

I am grateful to my dynamic team and endless supporters without whom we wouldn't have been able to come this far in touching the lives of 75,000 people in the last six years. And lastly, make sure joy continues to be the centre of your life.

Here's to standing our ground, no matter what. ✊🏼“

Rohan, () one of our youth leaders, from Project Phoenix got an opportunity to sing and perform in the Open Mic section at the Mental Health Confab'23. We want to take a moment and thank all the people at Light Up (EMF) who have contributed to Rohan's journey in the last 5 years. Thank you YMH for giving Rohan this wonderful platform.

Rohan has been with Light Up (EMF) since the very beginning and brick by brick we have created access to learning opportunities for Rohan to become a singer. He is currently receiving training from Manzil Mystics in vocals and music education.

Rohan continues to make us and all the partners proud of him.
