About the Conference
Financial markets across the globe have been facing turmoil and shocks in last five years. The US economy has been struggling with sluggish growth after global financial crisis in 2007. In Europe, the situation is worse. Many European countries have been left with sovereign debt crisis and prolonged slowdown. According to IMF forecast in september 2012, the global output growth is expected to grow by 3.3 per cent in 2012 and has forecasted global growth of 3.6 per cent in 2013.
The growth linkages and integration of Indian economy and its financial system with the world has lead India to become more vulnerable to external developments. India's GDP growth has been 5.3 per cent in first quarter of 2012. Inflation has remained stubbornly high in last one year. Interest rates in all spectrums have risen. Rupee has depreciated considerably. Increasing fiscal deficit is also a problem. The effect of global slowdown has been more pronounced in Indian financial markets. One silver lining emerging out of the crises of recent years is that although the world is affected by massive credit failures, bank and brokerage meltdowns, and government bailouts but Indian financial markets were strong enough to handle the crisis. Also, the stock exchanges around the world were able to provide transparency, price discovery, certainty of ex*****on and central clearing throughout the crisis. The crisis has validated the critical role of regulated exchange markets.
All these developments have posed issues, challenges and serious concerns amongst policymakers, stock exchanges, analysts, academia and practitioners to come up with solutions and reforms to face such crisis in future.
This conference intends to provide a common platform for discussion on all such issues through research papers and case studies, which would address to the issues and challenges in financial markets in new economy. We would encourage submissions of high quality manuscripts that may leave an impact upon academia, corporates, practitioners and society.
