Kula 2018 Kula 2019 is the annual academic meet (fest) of the Department of Sociology, Lady Shri Ram College for Women.

Lady Shri Ram College for Women, has long been recognized as a premier institution of higher learning for women in India. A centre for academic excellence and achievement, it is today one of the finest institutions for Social Sciences, Humanities and Commerce, while also offering a B.Sc. Programme in Statistics.At LSR the belief is in a holistic vision that never discounts the past, but at the same time embraces the future with unwavering confidence in the ability to shape it and harness its potentialities. LSR is committed to nurturing and creating women who are equipped to be world citizens. Women who take pride in their culture and heritage but also have a cosmopolitan understanding of the world today and a sensibility that celebrates diversity in all its joyous vibrancy. The Sociology course invites students to think about society in terms of its constitutive principles, organization and institutions. The tenor of the course is investigative and critical. The course introduces students to the historical emergence of the discipline, its theoretical orientations and conceptual tool kit and initiates a sociological examination of India. Students are also taken into the sub-fields of the discipline. Sociology provides a ‘total’ learning experience incorporating real world experiences and events with classroom discussion and analysis. Kula 2016 is the annual academic meet of the Department of Sociology, Lady Shri Ram College for Women. Date: 18th & 19th March

Kula exchange refers to the traditional gift exchange system prevalent among the Trobriand islanders. The true symbolic significance of such an exchange lies in the nature and the meanings that are attached to that particular form of exchange. The act of gift giving is imperative for social organisation as the participants engage in the same as a means to achieve the desired social status. Hence it organises social hierarchy. They also form trade relations that extend beyond its economic dimension. Thus trust is placed at the very heart of Kula exchange.
