While the Gandhian mass movements of the 1920s and 30s brought unprecedented numbers of women out onto the streets, understanding Gandhi’s perspective on womanhood reveals a nuanced ideological framework.
Rather than directly challenging existing patriarchal structures, Gandhian nationalism redefined women’s roles through moral strength, self-sacrifice, and virtues symbolized by figures like Sita and Draupadi.
While women were elevated to assertive moral agents, Gandhi largely maintained belief in a traditional sexual division of labor, viewing domestic and nurturing responsibilities as women's natural, non-subordinate domain rather than pushing for radical structural equality in the public sphere. Examining these historical dynamics offers critical insight into both the vast mobilization and the inherent limits of gender discourse within India’s national movement.

A script is more than just a way of writing, it can preserve the cultural memory of an entire region.
Namey Dogra Akhar, associated with the Dogri language of Jammu, is gaining attention as efforts grow to revive the traditional script in public life.
The script evolved from the older Takri script and developed significantly during the reign of Maharaja Ranbir Singh. It was historically used for administrative and cultural purposes but gradually declined as other scripts and languages became dominant.
Today, the revival of Namey Dogra Akhar is not about replacing Devanagari. It is about preserving Jammu’s linguistic heritage and reconnecting younger generations with a traditional writing system.
For UPSC aspirants, this topic is important from the perspective of Indian languages, scripts, cultural heritage and the Eighth Schedule. Dogri was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution in 2003.

Botanists have identified Osbeckia ulotricha from the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve, highlighting the remarkable plant diversity of the Western Ghats.
The species was found in shola grasslands at an altitude of 1,200–1,500 metres. Only around 50 flowering individuals are currently known from an area of less than 1 sq km, making its distribution highly restricted.
The species has been classified as Data Deficient (DD) due to limited information about its population and threats.
For UPSC aspirants, the discovery connects biodiversity, endemism, shola ecosystems, Western Ghats and conservation, all important Environment & Ecology themes.
