Last Saturday, we came together for Boishakhi Adda 2026, our annual commemoration of the Bengali New Year and Rabindra Jayanti. It was a beautiful amalgamation of music, dance, recitation, an amazing potluck and lots of laughter of course. Sharing some glimpses from the memorable cultural evening. Mandala (The Magic Circle) presented "Kaun Hai Bharat Mata", at our SE studio on Saturday evening, as part of our Antarang series.

Based on the stories by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, this play, through layered narratives and shifting perspectives, interrogates the idea of “Bharat Mata”- who she is, who gets to define her, and who is left out of that imagination.

We had a full house and a room held in quiet attention. We thank the Mandala Circle and director Lokesh Jain, for bringing this powerful piece to our studio, encouraging dialogue and reflection and look forward to more such collaborations.

Shapno Ekhon felt privileged to be invited to conduct a theatre workshop for Maitri Golden Gatherings- a collective of super senior citizens, mostly residents of CR Park.

It turned out to be a delightful evening as the young at heart took the plunge into the creative and imaginative world of theatre. Their spontaneity and enthusiasm knew no bounds as they participated in the fun filled theatre games. Their lively presentations of childhood stories through still images stole hearts and created moments of nostalgia.

We are deeply grateful to Chandra Mallik, founder of Maitri Golden Gatherings for letting us be a part of this wonderful group. Thank you Prateek Ghosh for cheering the group on and capturing snapshots from the workshop.

Maitri in Sanskrit means friendship. It inculcates love and kindness towards self and others.

Maitri’s logo is the sunflower.
Sunflowers turn towards the sun to get energy. However, on cloudy days they turn towards each other to receive energy and support each other.

Maitri Golden Gatherings for 75+ encapsulates these core concepts. It is a place where senior citizens and the young come together every Friday to support and empower each other.
