Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service(SSIFS), established in 1986 by India's Ministry of External Affairs, trains Indian Foreign Service officers.

It also offers training for other Indian civil servants and foreign diplomats. Since 2007, Foreign Service Institute is located in a new campus for the FSI in a 6.5-acre plot of land adjoining the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus. The campus consists of Administrative, Hostel, and Residential complexes.

Dean SSIFS Amb Raj Srivastava conferred Valedictory certificates to 36 diplomats at the Special Course for Diplomats from Algeria, Libya & Syria for successfully completing their training at SSIFS, New Delhi.

The participants made country presentations, shared their experiences of the training program & expressed their gratitude to the Govt of India.

Amb Srivastava congratulated them & extended his wishes to for their future diplomatic endeavours.

The Special Course for Diplomats from Algeria, Libya & Syria was inaugurated by Amb Raj Srivastava , Dean(SSIFS) at SSIFS today. 37 diplomats are participating in the program.

In the inaugural session, Amb Srivastava gave an overview of SSIFS, talked about the thematic categories of diplomacy, theories of international relations along with the Guiding Principles of Indian Foreign Policy.

Additionally, he also spoke about Global South's Human Centric Growth Model, core dimensions of its Resilience, Vaccine Maitri, Yoga, and Govt of India's initiatives (ISA, CDRI, IBCA, GBA).

As part of India's BRICS Presidency, SSIFS conducted the BRICS Young Diplomats Forum(BYDF) from 18-23 May, 2026 aimed at strengthening academic & institutional cooperation within BRICS countries.

The experiential learning,collaborative exercises, policy simulations & cultural immersion, as part of institutional memory, has been encapsulated in the form of a video.

BRICS Young Diplomats Forum
Day - V: Plenary Session & Valedictory Ceremony

On the concluding day of the Young Diplomats Forum(BYDF) program, a Plenary Session with Heads of Diplomatic Academies was organized as part of the program.

The session focussed on exchange of best practices among diplomatic training institutions & strengthening academic & institutional cooperation within BRICS countries.

Later, Amb Raj Srivastava, Dean(SSIFS), along with respective heads of other BRICS countries, conferred Valedictory certificates to the diplomats for successfully completing their training program at SSIFS, New Delhi.

The participants shared their experiences of the 05 day training & expressed their gratitude to the Govt of India for the training program.

The program ended with all the participants calling on Hon'ble EAM, Dr S.Jaishankar & interacting with him on BRICS-related themes that contribute to global development.

Day IV: Sustainability Roadmap

The Young Diplomats Forum focused on the theme of Sustainability, with Shri R.R. Rashmi from TERI leading discussions & interactive exercises that underscored that sustainable development must remain inclusive and people-centric. With a substantial share of the global population, agricultural land, forests and critical natural resources, the strengths of the BRICS countries also bring shared environmental responsibilities.

Day III: Cooperation Communiqué

The Young Diplomats Forum on the 3rd day focused on the Cooperation Communiqué, where the diplomats engaged in an academic & simulation exercise, sharing insights regarding sectoral cooperation ideas which included trade, health, education, security, cooperation & digital diplomacy. SSIFS created a real-life environment for the young diplomats in the classroom.

*Day -II: Innovation Portfolio*

The Young Diplomats Forum on the 2nd day, focused on technology, governance, and digital transformation in the BRICS framework. A tabletop exercise on the Digital Development Diplomacy Toolkit was organised, enabling participants to deliberate on the role of AI & DPI in advancing public service delivery and international cooperation. BRICS Innovation Portfolio emerged from the day’s hard work mentored and curated by experts from ORF!

Productive discussions were held today between Dean(SSIFS) Amb. Raj Kumar Srivastava and Mr Antonio de Aranjo, Secretary General of MOFA in Timor Leste & Ambassador of Timor Leste to India Amb Karlito Nunes at on deepening institutional collaboration between the two nations. Both sides discussed the need to strengthen diplomatic training & knowledge exchange.
