इंजीनियरिंग में कमजोर छात्रों को IIT का तोहफा, तीन साल में डिग्री देने का बन रहा है प्लान
मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय ने जो प्रस्ताव दिया है वो छात्रों को आईआईटी से छह सेमेस्टर के बाद बाहर निकलने का विकल्प प्रदान करेगा. वर्तमान में, आठ सेमेस्टर या चार साल पूरा करने के बाद बी. टेक की डिग्री प्रदान की जाती है.
देश के सबसे प्रमुख इंजीनियरिंग संस्थान, भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (IITs), अकादमिक रूप से कमजोर छात्रों को तीन साल में डिग्री पूरी करने की अनुमति दे सकते हैं. हालांकि यह डिग्री बी.टेक की नहीं होगी. आईआईटी 3 साल में इंजीनियरिंग में B.Sc.की डिग्री दे सकता है.

इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक यह प्रस्ताव आईआईटी परिषद की बैठक के एजेंडे पर है. मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री की अध्यक्षता वाली परिषद, सभी 23 संस्थानों का सर्वोच्च निर्णय लेने वाला निकाय है. वर्तमान में, सभी आईआईटी में अंडर ग्रेजुएट कोर्स में एनरोल्ड छात्रों को आठ सेमेस्टर या चार साल पूरा करने के बाद बी. टेक की डिग्री प्रदान की जाती है. हालांकि, कमजोर ग्रेड वाले कई छात्र बीच में ही आईआईटी छोड़ देते हैं.
इस साल संसद में मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय द्वारा साझा किए गए आंकड़ों के अनुसार, बी.टेक और पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट कोर्स में पिछले दो सालों से 2,461 छात्र विभिन्न आईआईटी से बाहर हो गए. इनमें कमजोर शैक्षणिक प्रदर्शन के कारण निष्कासन के मामले भी शामिल हैं. उदाहरण के लिए, इस साल आईआईटी कानपुर ने खराब ग्रेड के आधार पर 18 छात्रों को निष्कासित कर दिया, जिनमें से आधे बीटेक छात्र थे.

मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय ने जो प्रस्ताव दिया है वो छात्रों को आईआईटी से छह सेमेस्टर के बाद बाहर निकलने का विकल्प प्रदान करेगा. काउंसिल के एजेंडे के मुताबिक, आईआईटी को इस प्रपोजल को मंजूर करने के लिए कहा गया है. ये अकादमिक रूप से कमजोर छात्रों को दूसरे सेमेस्टर के बाद B.Sc. (इंजीनियरिंग) के चयन की अनुमति देगा. यह कोर्स तीन साल बाद पूरा हो जाएगा बशर्ते छात्र न्यूनतम शैक्षणिक मानकों को पूरा कर चुके हों.

IIT, IIM students expand scope of their scholarship scheme to Northeast

A group of students from the Indian Institutes of Technology, the Indian Institutes of Management and the National Institutes of Technology have expanded the scope of their “career-shaping” examination and scholarship to urban centres in the Northeast.

The group from these three institutes had started the “one nation, one exam” National Level Common Entrance Examination (NLCEE) for classes 9-12 this year. The first exam on March 31, conducted across 62 centres across India, had 22,000 students.

“This time, we have included all tier 2 and tier 3 cities in the northeast as our examination centres for better pe*******on and opportunity to underprivileged students in geographically-challenged areas. We are also offering an additional scholarship of up to ₹ 60,000 to deserving students besides an opportunity to visit research and development centres such as the Indian Space Research Organisation and the IITs for 3-15 days,” NLCEE’s overall coordinator Ullas M.S., an NIT Karnataka product, told The Hindu.

NLCEE was founded by Ravi Nishant who studied in IIT-Guwahati.

Mr. Ullas said the group hired interns from different IITs and NITs to work together on the NLCEE project.

“For the exam, there is no need for prerequisite preparation as it is not designed to test one’s technical skills in maths or science. It is meant to test one’s aptitude, creativity in problem-solving, and thinking outside the box,” he said.

He said that the NLCEE team would conduct the exam in two phases. For the first, examination centres will operate in more than 100 cities in the country. Based on the results, the top 1,000 students would be selected for the second phase and rewarded according to the rank achieved.

“In the second phase, we will shortlist 100 children, then provide significant educational exposure to the deserved by offering visits to the ISRO, the IITs, etc. It can make them motivated, get an overall idea about all kinds of educational streams or courses available, and then take the right decision for their further studies. The NLCEE shall pay all the expenses of the children's living and transportation,” Mr. Ullas said.
