ic years divided into 9 semesters of 6 months each. This is followed by a one-year compulsory rotating internship. The four and a half years are divided into three phases. Phase-I (2 semesters) This phase consists of pre-clinical subjects like human anatomy,
Physiology, biochemistry and introduction to community medicine. Phase-II (3 semesters) This phase consists of para-clinical subjects like pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, forensic medicine including toxicology and a part of community medicine. During phase-II, teaching of para-clinical and clinical subjects is done concurrently. Phase-III (continuation of study of clinical subjects for 7 semesters after passing Phase-I)

Infrastructure for OPD Outdoor Patient Department :-

It provides consultation without the need to be admitted. 60 OPD rooms ensure that one gets all possible services under one roof. The Hospital also attempts to reach the doorstep of patients through peripheral health services provided by the Community Health Medicine Department in remote and sparsely equipped areas. Intensive Care Unit :-

This is a place where every second, every breath and every action counts. In such an area, there are no second chances, for man or for machine. The hospital has well equipped ICU's with a total bed strength of 50 that include the ICCU, MICU, NICU, PICU and the SICU. They have all facilities of Advanced Life Support, are centrally air-conditioned and have bedside and centralized monitoring. High end monitors like V24C Monitors, Multiparameter C3 Monitor (ECG/Resp., SpO2,NBP and Temp.), CMS for C3 monitors and the Defibrillator/Monitor (Heartstart XL), ABG Portable Machine have been supplied by Philips Medical and Braun has supplied the Syringe Pump (Perfusor Compact). Operation Theatre Complex :-

The Hospital has 14 Operation Theatres (OTs) in all, 11 being in one OT complex where surgeries are performed in various disciplines like General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement, Oncosurgery, Neurosurgery, etc. All the measures taken in the Operation Theatres ensure a 100% perfect sterile environment leading to a very strict infection control. Each OT has state-of-the-art electronically controlled operating tables provided by Medifa, cold and shadowless lights with an in-built camera by Dr. Mach, anaesthesia pendants from Dragger and Micro and HEPA filters with laminar airflow. It is centrally air-conditioned and has a centralized gas supply of Nitrous Oxide, Oxygen and compressed air. The OT Complex has a post- operative recovery ward located adjacent to the operation theatres that has monitors, defibrillators, etc. The Multimobile Mobile C-Arm with 9'' IITV is provided by Siemens, the surgical operating microscopes by Carl Zeiss, the Anaesthesia machines by Datex Ohmeda, etc. Learning X-ray and Radiology :-

All routine x-rays such as chest, spine, skull, abdomen and extremities such as hand, leg, foot, arm, joints etc can be taken. Procedures such as intravenous urography, hysterosalphingography (HSG), barium enema, etc. are done in the department on 800 Mas fluorovision and the images taken in spot films can also be viewed on IITV. This minimizes patient exposure to radiation while still maintaining a high level of accuracy. The Mobile 2.5 machine does a great task in taking portable x-rays in emergency departments such as casualty, ICCU and the wards as well. Thus, this offers a bedside x-ray facility to the patients. The C-Arm installed in the operation theatre permits the surgeons to view x-rays during the intra-operative period, which proves extremely helpful in cases in orthopaedics, urology and others as well. A lot of the equipment in this department is provided by world leaders, Siemens. Sonography and Colour Doppler :-

The Siemens Sonoline G-50 with 4 probes makes the ultrasound easy and accurate due to its high resolution. The machine has a Colour Doppler mode along with a cardiac package that makes echocardiography possible. This department has a special radiology museum to retrieve important clinical cases for teaching and research purposes. CT Scan :-

Keeping with the belief of providing the best at a cost affordable to the underprivileged, the hospital has installed a Siemens Somaton Emotion CT. This allows all routine scans like brain, spine, chest etc. along with CT scan- guided biopsies and other procedures to be conducted. The 3D reconstruction package on this machine equips the surgeon to perform 3D angiographies such as renal, carotid, peripheral, etc. Learning MRI Scan :-

The hospital has invested in a top of the line Siemens Magnetom Concerto MRI machine to meet all kinds of diagnostic challenges. This helps conduct all routine scans such as MRI Brain, MRI Spine, MR Angiography, MR Extremities, etc. Blood Bank

This is the only blood bank in the whole of Navi Mumbai that is well equipped to prepare components of blood. It is licensed to provide whole blood as well as life saving components like packed red blood cells, platelet concentrate, fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate. The blood bank has a Platelet Incubator (PI 200), Platelet Agitator (PA 200), Deep Freezer (-80?C), Deep Freezer (-40?C) BBR 300L by TPL. Baxter and Terumo Penpol have supplied a lot of the other equipment in the blood bank. Laboratory Services

The Hospital laboratory services include Central Patient Sample Collection Area, Haematology and Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology and Histopathology, Biochemistry and Microbiology. Each service area has world class equipment, that include totally automated blood cell counters, automated coagulometers, biochemistry analysers, fluorescent microscopes, ELISA readers, arterial blood gas analysers, etc. The biochemistry laboratory is fitted with a fully automated biochemistry analyser, an electrolyte analyzer, a blood gas analyzer all supplied by Ranbaxy. The Haematology laboratory has a 5-part blood cell counter, a coagulometer, a binocular microscope and an automatic urine analyzer among other equipment. It has a state-of-the-art Olympus Trinocular Research Microscope with phase contrast attachment, polarizing attachment with a Sony CCD Camera and frame grabber card, which are useful for teaching purposes. Central Sterile Services

This department is a unique first for the whole of Navi Mumbai. It is centralized for the entire hospital with a unilateral flow of sterilization, a provision not seen at many hospitals. This department has different modes of sterilization, viz. steam and gas sterilization with sterile storage for all users. All equipment in this department including the ultrasonic cleaner, double door washer disinfector and dryer, Prevac steam steriliser (V120), gas steriliser (Ethylene Oxide), plastic sealer machine, steam jet hot water pressure guns have been supplied by Steris Corporation (USA), who are leaders in this field.
