Chancery cursive Script - Minuscules 1

10/05/2023

The term "chancery hand" can mean two different historical handwriting styles. The first one was used for business in the 13th century and spread to France and England. The second style was cursive and based on humanist minuscule. It was developed by Niccolò Niccoli in the Vatican and was the origin of italic typefaces.

In this video, I have demonstrated the letters with CURVED strokes - CGOQ DBPR JUS. You can also print the pdf file for practicing the letters.

A pen-width (or nib thickness) of a pen determines the width of the lines it creates, which in turn influences the size and style of the letters.

During the initial stages of learning, it's important to follow the prescribed pen-widths for each script to develop a strong foundation. Once you have gained expertise and confidence, you can start experimenting with different pen-widths to develop your own unique writing style and let your imagination and creativity flow freely onto the paper.

If you're looking to improve your calligraphy skills, mastering the basic strokes is an essential first step. The basic strokes form the foundation of calligraphy and provide the building blocks for more advanced techniques.

By practicing these advanced strokes, you'll develop the muscle memory and control needed to create more intricate letterforms and advanced strokes. This will make it easier for you to progress in your calligraphy journey and tackle more challenging scripts, such as copperplate or gothic.
