MATTHEW 7:1-6
Intro : Matthew compiled the oracles in Hebrew and interpreted them . He connect Jesus' life with the story of Israel.
Date of the writing : most scholars date matthew after mark and often relate it to the Jamnian Council of AD 90.
BODY :
Verse 1--- Start with a well known Principle called Sowing and Reaping. If you judge then expect the same . If you do little judging than you will reap little Judging.
It's like the Gravity ; if you jump of a building
than you will hit the Ground , nothing can be
done. We mostly talk about the negative but
forget the positive of "Sow and Reap".
That is " if you show mercy and forgiveness
Than you shall recieve it too".
We want to be loved, to be forgiven, we want other to be kind to us, but we don't show it to other . GOD is giving us the opportunity to sow.
The Sermon on the Mount is all about being different . It is all about Jesus telling us
" i want you all to be different from the
World". To be different in everything.
We are told not to be judgemental.
But the NEW-TESTAMENT has many illustration of legitimate judgement of condition , conduct , or teaching others. In addition there are several area in which we Christian are commanded to make a decision good or bad. When we look into (1cor 6 : 1-8) we can see Church is to settle any dispute between believer and also in (matt 18:17/ 1cor 5:9-13) church is to judge on Serious sin.
Verse2---- Jesus warned that unrighteous Judgement would be repaid. This principle of reaping what we Sow is build into man/Human life from long ago.
verse3-5---- Jesus expose our tendency to see a small fault in someone while ignoring the same mistake in ours. He purposely exaggerated the situation to drive home the point, someone with plank in his eye ofter find fault with the speck in the eye of other not noticing his very own condition;
Is not it hypocritical that we help someone with a fault when we have a greater fault ? We must remedies/ deal with our own fault before criticizing other.
Verse 6 ---- This verse prove that "Jesus did not intended to forbid everykind of judgement. Instead He warn them not to give holy to dog or cast pearls before pig/swine. Under MOSIC LAW dog/swine were unclean animals. Here this term are use to depict wicked people . When we meet people who treat divine truth with utter-contempt and respond to the Gospel of the claim of Christ with abuse and violence, we are not force/obligated to continue to share the Gospel with them .
Conclusion : so in our life as a Christian i would like us to apply what our Lord teaches us . Not to be Judgemental and if we do it must be biblical and we must be holy .
I would like us to also be discern to
The people we Share the Gospel to.
# Gracious heavenly Father ,
Thank you for sustaining our life till now .
As we grow older day by day i pray that you will help us also grow in you , drawing near to you . Father lord i pray that we could apply what you taught us in our day to day life . Tell us what your will is and teach us Lord . Teach us to be discern to your voice.
Guide us so that in what ever we do it will glorify You God.
With thanks giving i submit our life into your care in JESUS name i pray.
Amen!

When it happens to be a human..... There are people who envy you and there are
people who admire you. There will be people who envy you, and there will be people who look down on you.
This is the nature as usual.
No matter how good you do it No matter how obedient you are.. You can't afford to please everyone. That's why, in order to please others... Don't let your self-worth be compromised. You have to defend your conviction.
Just so you know... "You" on the other's mouth is... For good or for bad You are not a real one.
Humans are....... Even if we look the same eye, we don't have the same vision.
Same advertisement, but different hearing. Even though they speak the same mouth, they are different.
Even though we have the same brain, we can't have the same concept.
Same people advertise, different lifestyles.
This is why....
No matter how special and understanding you are, you have to meet someone..
No matter how much you give, you have to grow with someone who appreciates..
No matter how honest you are, you have to meet someone with less doubting...
No matter how humble you are, you have to meet someone who appreciates you..
At the end...
Don't tell everything you know...
Don't believe everything you see....
How much you love someone and how friendly you are.
Don't forget to live for yourself............

𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠; 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦: 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Here is the key to Proverbs. Here is the key to life. These are King David’s words to his son Solomon (Pr 4:1-9). They explain the purpose of the book of Proverbs. They describe the greatest goal for your life – the important pursuit of wisdom and understanding.

Most men get distracted pursuing all kinds of other things. It is man’s folly and trouble that any other ambition ever competes with getting wisdom. It is your duty and privilege to consider the wonderful opportunity of wisdom and seek it with all your might.

Wisdom is the principal thing – the most important matter in life. What is wisdom? It is the power of right judgment – the ability to choose the correct solution for any situation. It is knowing how to think, speak, and act to please both God and men throughout life.

Wisdom is the basis for victorious living. Without wisdom, men make choices that bring pain, poverty, trouble, and even death. With it, men make choices that bring them health, peace, prosperity, success, and life. Your future depends on your degree of wisdom.

Understanding is connected to wisdom, and it also is an important goal. Understanding is the power of discernment – to see past what meets the eye and recognize the actual faults or merits of a thing. It is the ability to grasp a matter or situation and assess it correctly.

Without understanding, men are easily deceived and led astray. Without it, men are confused and perplexed. With it, men can see what others miss, and they can avoid the snares and traps of folly and enticing sins. With it, life’s difficulties become quite simple.

Here is the road to success. What will you do with this axiom? If you neglect wisdom, you will bring pain and trouble upon you and your family. If you make it a priority to get wisdom and understanding, you will bask in pleasant prosperity. Finding wisdom brings life and God’s favor; neglecting it wrongs your own soul and brings death (Pr 8:35-36).

The world spends trillions on education, but neglects wisdom and understanding. Parents sacrifice for children to “get an education,” as if it were the noblest human goal. They do not realize that learning without wisdom or understanding is dangerous, for it gives false confidence in knowledge. An educated fool is worse than an ignorant fool (Pr 26:12)!

It matters little who discovered Bolivia, or if it was discovered. Unless you work for NASA, calculus has little use, though it does excuse a lower grade point average. Regurgitating facts you will never use in the real world is one of the greatest hoaxes ever sold. Paul warned of much learning that never leads to truth or wisdom (II Tim 3:6-7).

Wisdom is the principal thing, but it is not in the scope and sequence of any grade, of any state, of any nation. A bachelor’s degree in America takes 17 years of formal education, but the degree is granted without any evaluation of wisdom. Resumes formally list education and professional experience, but there is not a single line about wisdom.

Wisdom and understanding require knowing and fearing God (Pr 1:7; 9:10; Job 28:28; Ps 111:10). You cannot even start to be wise without fearing and loving the true Creator God – Jehovah of the Bible. But these vital prerequisites and their source document are forbidden and ridiculed in America and other nations’ institutions of “higher learning.”

What higher learning are educators talking about? Irrelevant facts and insane reasoning! Facts without the correct context and a productive purpose are irrelevant and distracting. Reasoning without the correct First Cause and moral absolutes is hallucination. These educators need to study, The Emperor’s New Clothes, by Hans Christian Andersen.

What are the main goals of so-called enlightened nations? Pleasure! Which is no better than the Epicurean madness of the Greeks (Acts 17:16-34). Money! Which is the root of all evil and drowns men in destruction (I Tim 6:6-10). Health! Which is quite worthless, if your stronger and longer life is used to extend your dysfunctional living (Pr 13:15).

Parent! What do you do with and for your children? Do you teach them the power of right judgment and right discernment? Do you have these abilities yourself? Or do you think you are a great parent by providing three squares a day, a few hours of restricted television, and picking them up from soccer practice after school? Life is so much more.

Parent! Wisdom is found in the Bible, and any thoughts contrary to it are dark ignorance (Ps 119:128; Is 8:20; I Tim 6:3-5,20). You must learn wisdom from the Bible, and you must teach it to your children (Deut 6:4-9; Eph 6:4; II Tim 3:15). Miss Huckleberry at the elementary school will not do it. Most pastors and churches do not even do it today.

Parent! Wisdom is a Bible worldview. Men are drunk on nihilism, naturalism, humanism, pantheism, etc. Your children must be convinced of a Creator God, Who revealed absolute truth in the Bible, which is perfect in every part, and contains the facts of Jesus Christ, the devil, the origin and future of man, eternal punishment, and rules for living.

Parent! Wisdom may be seen clearly by comparing it to folly, as many of Solomon’s proverbs do. You have daily opportunities in this confused and profane world to identify the foolishness of man and show the answer of wisdom – straight from the Word of God. It is the blessed privilege of the righteous to mock and ridicule the ignorance of fools.

Parent! God did not leave you without tools. He gave you an inspired library of sixty-six books covering the entire scope of wisdom and understanding. He inspired David and Solomon to give you the proverb before you. The book of Proverbs should be required learning for every child. He also gifted and ordained pastors and teachers to help you.

Wisdom takes a commitment (Pr 18:1) to reject your thoughts (Pr 3:5; 17:16; 18:2). It cannot be a part-time pursuit, for it requires the careful diligence that hunting for hidden treasure requires (Pr 2:1-9). You must redeem your time for the pursuit (Eph 5:15-17). Yet it is easy for those who love it and seek it with humble readiness (Pr 8:17; 14:6).

May God bless His children to simplify their lives – getting rid of unnecessary noise and distraction – to focus on the principal things – wisdom and understanding. Do not let the world or devil distract you with frivolous and worthless pursuits. Do not join most so-called Christians today as they turn from the truth to fables as Paul warned (II Tim 4:3-4).

Jesus grew in wisdom and in favor with God and man (Lu 2:52), the perfect goals for you and your family. In Him are hid all treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col 2:3). God put His elect in Christ Jesus and made Him wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption for them (I Cor 1:30). The greatest wisdom is to believe this and live like it.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟐𝟑:𝟑𝟑

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬.

Here are two horrible sins – a man lusting after women other than his wife and saying perverse things he ordinarily would not say. Too much wine has removed his moral inhibitions, and he now commits sins he earlier knew were foolish and definitely wrong.

The context is too much wine (Pr 23:20-21,29-30,34-35). A moderate amount makes the heart glad (Pr 31:6-7; Ps 104:15; Eccl 10:19). Too much causes drunkenness, which God condemns (Ep 5:18; Rom 13:13). Drunkenness leads to folly and sins otherwise rejected.

Wine is the fermented juice of the grape. God made wine to contain 8 to 14 percent alcohol. At this level the alcohol kills the yeast in the grape mash and fermentation ends. This allows a glass or two with a meal for an adult to receive the Creator’s blessing.

Ethyl alcohol, from fermentation, depresses the central nervous system. Small amounts relax the conscious functions of the brain and create a feeling of well-being and cheer. Large amounts reduce memory, motor coordination, and unconscious bodily functions.

A moderate amount of wine, which can be learned for each person with relative ease, reduces emotional and muscular tension to improve mood and social function. But an immoderate amount creates a euphoric loss of judgment and inhibitions ruling moral conduct. Here is King Solomon’s strong warning to his son – do not let wine steal your judgment and blind your conscience toward s*xual lust or ungodly speech.

Like any of God’s creations, wine properly used is a wonderful thing. But abused, it can be a horrible curse. Food properly used provides both short and long term energy and strength; but abused, it creates obesity and slothfulness. Sinful man often abuses God’s good creations, whether it is drunkenness with wine or gluttony with food (Eccl 7:29).

Too much alcohol leads to a loss of moral judgment and sin. Drunken men will look at other women lustfully, and they will say things they should not, because their conscious ability to rule these bodily passions is reduced. Such drinking is not for a Christian at all.

Bars and nightclubs are places where strangers meet for planned s*xual indulgence they would not otherwise be easily able to commit. By intentionally drowning their moral inhibitions, they engage in sin they would not do under other circumstances. Drunkenness is often the way to break down a woman’s natural inhibitions to the wickedness of casual sin (Hab 2:15). These places cannot be justified for any reason whatsoever.

The s*xual drive is one of the strongest bodily desires, and s*xual pleasure is one of God’s greatest blessings. So God put inhibitions against such promiscuous wickedness in the consciences of men, and especially women. These are great blessings from heaven. But wine will mock a person by temporarily destroying these s*xual protectors (Pr 20:1).

Wine also affects speech (Ps 78:65). A person will relax and talk more easily and freely with the moderate amount God intended. But an excess of it will result in extravagant statements, louder speech, slurred words, and perverse and filthy statements.

The tongue is a very dangerous bodily part by nature (Pr 18:21; James 3:2-12). But to give away the rule of your tongue by too much wine is horrible folly. You will say things foolish and hurtful that you can never recover. Let every reader beware of this danger.

The lesson is clear. Wise men limit wine or any other alcohol to avoid temptation in these two sinful areas. Regardless of scoffers, this is as easy as knowing how many cookies are for strength and not gluttony. As in eating in a buffet or other tempting situation, the decision to limit drinking to a certain amount is made in advance and followed strictly.

God’s saints do not allow situations that even create an opportunity for sin (Rom 13:14). Since alcohol leads to these two sins, the use of wine is clearly limited. The solution is not total abstinence from wine anymore than gluttony should be avoided by total abstinence from food. Temperance is self-discipline and moderation, not abstinence.

If the LORD limits drinking wine, which He created, to avoid looking at other women and saying filthy things, what must He think of television that brings strange women and wicked speech right into your home? What does he think of reading material that does the same thing? What does He think of athletic events where the women are mostly unclothed? Every reader should be able to answer these questions easily.

Jesus drank wine in contrast to John the Baptist (Luke 7:33-35), like Abraham, Melchisedec, and David (Gen 14:18; II Sam 6:19). But He never impaired His moral judgment at all, for He was holy and separate from sinners (Heb 1:9; 4:15; 7:26). Let everyone that calls himself a Christian despise drinking too much, for it leads to two sins that His followers should never commit (II Tim 2:19). Live worthy of your King’s name!

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟐𝟎:𝟐𝟏

𝐀𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠; 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝.

Easy come, easy go. These words are a true financial rule from this and other proverbs. God sent Solomon to warn that get-rich-quick schemes of various kinds will not work.

If you cheat in any way to quickly advance professionally or get rich financially, you will not succeed or survive in the long run. God will blast you; men will take your gains.

This proverb assumes a violation of the rules of wisdom to get quick profits, but the success will not last, for God and good men will not favor your unrighteous cause. You may get ahead temporarily, but the end of your career will be painful poverty. Believe it.

God may bless a man to advance or profit quickly, like Isaac (Gen 26:12), Joseph (Gen 41:38-45), Mordecai (Esther 6:1-11), Daniel (Dan 1:17-21), and others. Estates and inheritances in such cases are blessed and will be blessed while God favors the man.

If you want to be as successful as God intends, there are godly and right ways to pursue your profession and manage your finances. Faithful conduct in your business will build an inheritance, all other things being equal (Pr 10:4; 11:25; 13:4,22; 19:14; 22:29; etc.).

However, any compromise of God’s rules for business, even if you think it will get you ahead, will certainly get you behind. God’s way is not only the best way; it is the only way. Set your heart and mind this very day that you will never cheat at all to get ahead.

Solomon knew more about fast career progression and huge investment returns than any man, but his were from God. He is the one God chose to warn you that any foolish haste to succeed will take you down (Pr 28:20,22; 21:5; 10:2-3; 13:11,22-23; 14:23; 28:8).

Consider risk, like commodity trading. Solomon warned you to minimize risk (Pr 6:1-5; 22:3). If you are one of the very few that initially hit a few trades right, the leverage of the futures market will make you rich – then the sword’s other edge will take it all back.

Consider giving. You know the Bible’s example of tithing 10%. But you choose to invest that 10% for ten years at 10% – a return of 160% – an inheritance hastily gotten. You tell your conscience you will give then. God laughs (Pr 3:9-10; 11:24-26; Mal 3:8-12).

Consider vanity. You quit your paying job, because you attended a network marketing meeting, where a slick dude with a rented Rolex talked about getting rich selling overpriced soap to a pyramid of suckers. God laughs (Pr 12:11; 13:23; 14:23; 28:19).

The world admits, Haste makes waste. But they only see natural laws at work like attention to detail and doing a job right. There is much more against haste – God will not bless the hasty man, for he is clearly breaking a rule God has established (Pr 19:2).

Consider the words, “Shall not be blessed.” These words are a figure of speech called meiosis or litotes, an exaggerated understatement, the opposite of hyperbole. Rather than only missing God’s blessing, you will get God’s blasting (Hag 1:5-11; 2:16-17).

But there is an inheritance you will get quickly that you should aggressively pursue. For the faithful few that obey this proverb and the rest of scripture, God will soon send Jesus Christ to gather you to heaven to be joint-heirs with Him of the universe (Rom 8:14-23).

His glorious return to burn up this earth and raise the dead will occur in an instant (I Cor 15:51-58; I Thess 4:13-18; II Thess 1:7-10). Jesus declared He is coming quickly – with haste (Rev 3:11; 22:7,12,20). How should you respond? Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟏𝟗:𝟏𝟔

𝐇𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥; 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐞.

Do you care about yourself? There is a way to live that brings happiness and success, and there is a way to live that will kill you. The choice is yours. The results are God’s. The consequences are certain. Do you love or despise God’s way for living your life?

If you keep God’s commandment, you keep yourself from pain and trouble. If you despise God’s ways, you commit su***de. The Creator God did not give a command for how men should live to ruin their fun; He gave commandment for them to maximize life. It is foolish and rebellious man that rejects His word that ruins their lives in many ways.

What is the commandment to keep your soul? It is all God’s commandments, no matter what part of life each may apply to (Ps 119:128). The singular noun is a collective noun for all His commandments (Pr 6:20,23; 13:13). The singular is also the fear of the Lord, which includes all other commandments (Pr 1:7; 19:23; Ps 111:10; 112:1; Ec 12:13).

The man who keeps God’s commandments is doing something very good for his own soul. He is pursuing wisdom and all its benefits for his life (Pr 4:4-9). “The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul” (Pr 16:17). “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles” (Pr 21:23).

How does a man despise his ways? He rejects God’s ways for the various aspects of his life. You interpret “his ways” as God’s ways, because God is to be elliptically understood from the first clause, and because men do not truly despise their own ways. The man here believes he has better ideas on how to live, so he rejects the counsel of God for his life.

What are the consequences? When a man chooses his own way for a decision, rather than God’s way, he chooses death. “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Pr 16:25). “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Pr 14:12). Do you hear the warning?

God’s infallible revelation, the Bible, teaches men how to be happy and successful. If they rebel against His wisdom, they bring on themselves dysfunction, pain, trouble, and eventually death. They die early by accidents, capital punishment, disease, revenge, or God’s judgment. If a man truly cared for himself, he would keep God’s commandments.

Here is how Moses taught this wisdom to Israel, “Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess” (Deut 5:33). And, “For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it” (Deut 32:47).

Consider a simple example. Instead of honoring parents as God commanded, men allow disrespect, jokes, and rebellion, never seeing that such irreverent fools will eventually run into a human authority that will crush them, and they lose God’s promised blessings for parental honor (Ex 20:12; Eph 6:2-3). It is lose-lose to reject this commandment of God.

Consider another example. Instead of being faithful to one spouse as God commanded, men promote casual s*x and adultery, never seeing that such promiscuous fools will eventually end up diseased, divorced, lonely, scarred, unloved, or killed. They could have had the pleasure of a devoted spouse and a happy family, but they wanted it their way.

Consider another example. Instead of training children by the simple methods taught in the Bible, especially in this book of Proverbs, many parents think they can follow the permissive and compromising ways of worldly psychologists. They never grasp why their children cause them so much grief, pain, expense, and shame. They despised God’s ways.

Consider another example. Instead of being thankful for the wisdom, capital, and risk-taking of an entrepreneur that built the company that employs them, fools conspire with other fools to form a union and demand greater wages and benefits for their little jobs. Instead of diligence and faithfulness, they choose sloth and rebellion. The company closes, and they lose their jobs. They despised God’s way of properly serving employers.

Consider another example. Instead of measuring a church by sound doctrine and practice as found in the Bible, most choose their own kind of church by programs, popularity, or prosperity. They wonder in the end why their souls seem dead, and the answer is that they wandered out of the way of understanding into the congregation of the dead (Pr 21:16).

God will soon separate all men on Judgment Day – those who did His will, and those who did things their way. Jesus warned, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord – And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matt 7:21-23).

A famous American singer, Frank Sinatra (1915-1998), often sang what is considered to be his most popular song, “I Did It My Way.” Since he died and met his Creator, he has learned that he should not have lived his life his way. He should have lived God’s way.

Do you want a rule for life? “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Pr 3:5-6). Rather than despise His ways, humble yourself and appreciate His ways. “I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways” (Ps 119:15). In what part of your life today are you following your own way instead of God’s way? Repent today.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟏𝟖:𝟏𝟑

𝐇𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐦.

Wise men listen carefully and answer slowly. A hasty response is not wise or prudent – it is foolish and shameful. Comprehending accurately and answering rightly are far more important than answering quickly. You have two ears to hear, but only one mouth to speak; let this ratio dictate your emphasis. Be swift to hear, and slow to speak. Make sure you know every situation fully before making a judgment or giving an answer.

Are you a good listener? Wise men listen well, because they must gather all the facts forming an explanation or affecting a situation. They must sort through and discard the details not affecting the matter and focus only on those that are important. The man already thinking about his answer, or worse yet, already talking, has foolishly cut short his gathering of information. He is a fool. You will meet many of them. Do not be one!

Do you speak slowly? Wise men are careful, guarded, and reserved to give opinions. They know that haste makes waste, especially to think and speak. They know that prudence to circumspectly analyze all angles is very important before speaking. They know that first thoughts may not be the best thoughts. They know that wise men study to answer, but the mouths of wicked men pour out foolishness without studying (Pr 15:28).

Ahasuerus and Darius hastily approved evil legislation. The first agreed to exterminate a people before knowing his wife was among them; the second condemned his most faithful aide to lions for the mere envy of his peers. And foolish Haman, if he had asked what Ahasuerus was reading might have toned down the parade for Mordecai.

Righteous judgment does not judge by appearance, but by substance (Jn 7:24). Righteous judgment discards all emotional feelings and relationships to exalt Bible righteousness. Only fools rush to judgment without all the facts, with merely suppositional evidence. Even the Jews and Romans, as quick and severe as their systems of justice were, allowed a man to speak for himself before judgment was passed (John 7:51; Acts 25:16; 26:1).

The man (or woman) who talks immediately, or who talks almost constantly, is a fool. You can find them easily. Listen to any conversation. The one answering before a matter is fully told, or answering without due deliberation, or answering frivolously or emotionally, or dominating the conversation in quantity or volume, is a fool. They declare their folly plainly (Ec 5:3; 10:3). Make sure you are not like them at all.

Few words are better. Others will think you are wise, even if you are not (Pr 17:27-28). And you will save yourself much sin and trouble (Pr 10:19; Jas 3:2). Slow responses are better. Quick speaking with little thinking is folly (Pr 14:29; 29:20). Quick hearing with slow speaking is wisdom (Jas 1:19-20). Protect yourself from trouble and easily enhance your reputation – listen more carefully, think more thoroughly, and speak more slowly.
