Commissioner ๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฝ ๐ ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ธ๐ฒ, an alumnus of the 2001โ2003 batch of Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, is making headlines for his extraordinary journey โ from a small village in rural Marathwada to the global stage of economic diplomacy and international leadership.
Recently, he co-led the US-India Commissionโs multi-city economic diplomacy tour across Delhi, Bangalore, Kochi, and Mumbai, alongside Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey, and in partnership with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The delegation successfully secured hundreds of millions of dollars in investment pledges, advancing cooperation in technology, healthcare, education, renewable energy, logistics, and infrastructure. This initiative is being hailed as a landmark in strengthening US-India economic relations.
Commissioner Deelip Mhaske credits his time at TISS as transformative โ helping shape his values, sharpen his policy and people skills, and instilling a lifelong commitment to inclusive development and global justice. The rigorous training in medical and psychiatric social work gave him the foundation to advocate for vulnerable communities and lead change with empathy and equity at the core.
One of the most significant and measurable impacts of the mission was the inclusion of emerging entrepreneurs from marginalised communities in high-level diplomatic engagement. For the first time, these innovators had the opportunity to meet and interact directly with Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy during a formal reception at the Taj Hotel. This unprecedented initiative not only symbolised inclusive economic diplomacy, but also opened new channels for social mobility, investment access, and cross-cultural collaboration, demonstrating a tangible commitment to ensuring that the benefits of global partnerships reach diverse and underrepresented groups.
Coming from a rural background, his journey from a small village to TISS, and from TISS to the global stage, reflects how the Institute has been instrumental in shaping leaders who drive change worldwide.
Commissioner Deelip Mhaskeโs visionary leadership and commitment to people-to-people diplomacy reflect the values of inclusivity, collaboration, and sustainable growth that TISS stands for. He stands as a shining example of how TISS alumni are shaping global engagement and building bridges between nations.
๐ Congratulations, Deelip Mhaske for making the TISS community proud on the world stage!
