Honored to have Saurabh Mhatre, Design Scientist & Founder of Studio OSMO, at the “कलापूर: Craft, Culture and City Form of Kolhapur” exhibition, engaging with the creative explorations of our first-year students.
His valuable perspectives highlighted the importance of observing, documenting, and understanding the deep connections between craft, communities, materials, and the evolving urban landscape. The narratives of Sonar, Wadar, Chambhar, Kumbhar, and other communities reflected the sensitivity and curiosity of young designers exploring cultural identities through design.

A semester of observation, documentation, and design coming together.

Student Dharmesh Patel reflects on an enriching journey that began with the Rajasthan Study Tour and evolved into the design of a Primary School in Jodhpur. From understanding the region’s culture, climate, and architecture to translating on-ground insights into thoughtful design solutions, the project showcases a process of exploration, learning, and creative growth.

The jury highlighted how field experiences can shape meaningful architectural responses, transforming observations into spaces that are contextually rooted and socially responsive.
