Katha on Ratha Katha on Ratha (KOR) is a bilingual reading program that aims to instil the passion and confidence for reading and learning among young children.

Katha on Ratha is supported by Sai Kedar Trust, a charitable trust with a focus on education. “Katha on Ratha” aims to instill the passion and confidence of reading and learning among young children. Many children, especially the under privileged, face significant difficulty in learning to read. This program helps to break this barrier by providing access to books and reading ability through enjoyable story telling sessions and activities. “Katha on Ratha” is supported by Sai Kedar Trust, a charitable trust with a focus on education. A typical “Katha on Ratha” reading session is centered around reading aloud, a bilingual book in English and Tamil in an engaging way. This session is enriched through appropriate role play, storytelling techniques and conducting activities aimed at improving phonemic awareness, language fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. “Katha on Ratha”, relies on a train the trainer model to sustain and scale. As part of this program, teachers and other regular volunteers associated with a school are trained to become “Reading Coaches”, who in turn independently facilitate the reading sessions in their schools. Teachers and Volunteers are also trained to objectively assess the reading levels of the students, and group the children based on their reading skill level. This helps to focus on group specific needs and reading enablement.

Virtual Learning - Revolutionizes Teaching-Learning Processes

School is a temple of learning. When they cannot function due to abnormal circumstances, teachers go out of their way to help students continue learning through virtual mode.

Katha on Ratha proudly presents extracts from the Panel Discussion held virtually on June 27, 2020 on the topic: Opportunities in e-Learning. The panel consisted of teachers from Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School (referred as RKM), T Nagar, Chennai and Sai Sankalp Nursery and Primary School (referred as SS), Arasankazhani, Chengelpet District moderated by our Katha on Ratha Implementation Lead, Mr. Kannan.

Ms Lalitha, Program Coordinator and Primary grade teacher from RKM and Ms Sangeetha, Headmistress from SS shared their experiences in initiating virtual teaching for their respective schools. They have successfully been doing this ever since lockdown started in March 2020. With 700+ students in RKM and 200+ students in SS these teachers have been working all through summer break so as their students may continue learning without a break.

RKM: KG to v – 70%
SS: I to V – முதலில் 80%, ஆனால் தற்பொழுது 97%

Star of the Day, Star of the Week, Star of the Month
