🌄 Arunachal Pradesh Statehood Day – 20 February 🇮🇳
Statehood Date: Arunachal Pradesh became the 24th state of India on 20 February 1987 via the 55th Constitutional Amendment Act, 1986.
Article 371H was inserted, giving the Governor special responsibility for law and order.

British Period:
The area was known as the North-East Frontier Tracts.
Administered under the Governor of Assam.
Inner Line Regulation (1873) protected tribal areas and regulated entry.

NEFA Formation (1954):
Reorganized as North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA).
Administered by the Government of India, with the Governor of Assam as Agent of the President.
Not constitutionally part of Assam.

1962 Sino-Indian War:
Chinese forces temporarily occupied parts of NEFA.
Highlighted Arunachal’s strategic importance along the McMahon Line.

Administrative Shift (1965):
Control moved from Ministry of External Affairs to Ministry of Home Affairs.
Strengthened direct governance of the region.

Union Territory (1972):
NEFA became the Union Territory of Arunachal Pradesh on 20 January 1972.
Legislative Assembly constituted.

Parliamentary Representation:
Pre-1954: No MPs.
NEFA (1954–1972): 1 nominated Lok Sabha member; no Rajya Sabha seat.
Union Territory (1972–1987): 2 elected Lok Sabha seats; no Rajya Sabha seat.
Statehood (1987–present): 2 Lok Sabha + 1 Rajya Sabha seat; 60-member Legislative Assembly.

Constitutional Position:
Article 371H: Governor has special responsibility for law & order.
Not under Sixth Schedule; no autonomous councils.
Functions as a full state, though predominantly tribal.
