Warm greeting and best wishes from Mahabodhi Namsai centre on entering the rain retreat to all Monks, Nun and lay devotees for three Months.

On this Auspicious day we monks are happy to announce and inform all dear meritorious lay devotees. This year we observe a rainy retreat ( vassa ) with 4 Bhikkhus and 51 Samaneras at Mahabodhi Namsai.

So, in these three months of vassa lay devotees can earn huge merit by supporting and donating necessities items to the monastery like , civara, umbrella, bed sheet, food, sandal, flower etc. And by visiting frequently and listening to dhamma discourse.

Important of Rain retreat

The Rain Retreat, also known as the Vassa or Buddhist Lent, is an important period in the Buddhist tradition. Here are some key reasons why the Rain Retreat holds significance:

1. Spiritual practice: The Rain Retreat allows Buddhist monks and nuns to focus on deepening their spiritual practice. They devote themselves to meditation, study, and contemplation during this period. It provides an opportunity for personal introspection and growth.

2. Preservation of teachings: The Rain Retreat is traditionally associated with the rainy season when monks and nuns refrain from traveling extensively. This helps preserve the teachings of the Buddha by ensuring that the spiritual community remains in close proximity, allowing for the exchange and clarity of teachings.

3. Community harmony: Rain Retreat fosters a sense of community within Buddhist monastic life. The monks and nuns come together in one location during this period, strengthening bonds and supporting each other in their spiritual quests. It promotes harmony, cooperation, and a sense of unity.

4. Environmental conservation: The Rain Retreat aligns with the natural rhythms of the environment, particularly in regions where monsoon seasons occur. By reducing travel activities during this period, it minimizes environmental impact and demonstrates respect for nature. This observance highlights the Buddhist principle of non-harming and ecological awareness.

5. Cultivating discipline: The Rain Retreat reinforces discipline and self-control within the monastic order. The practice of abstaining from certain activities, following a strict routine, and adhering to predetermined rules and guidelines fosters discipline, focus, and self-mastery. It helps cultivate mindfulness and restraint in thoughts, speech, and actions.

Overall, the Rain Retreat serves as a period for deep spiritual practice, community bonding, environmental stewardship, and the preservation of Buddhist teachings. It is a time of reflection, growth, and renewed dedication for monks, nuns, and lay Buddhists alike.

May all beings be happy and well.
