We are delighted to share that Mr. Solom Tshering Lepcha, student of the M.A. Geography (2024–2026 Batch), Department of Geography, Sikkim Alpine University, has been selected as a Field Assistant for the major research project:

“Springs, Climate Change and Mountain Resilience: Strengthening Policy Dialogue on Water Security in the Darjeeling-Sikkim Himalayas”

The project is being undertaken under the South Asia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Water Resources Studies (SACIWARS), Secunderabad, Telangana.

Mr. Solom Tshering Lepcha completed his academic work under the supervision of Dr. Pribat Rai.

This achievement reflects the commitment of our students towards research, field-based learning, environmental studies, and sustainable water-resource management in the Himalayan region.

Namchi, Sikkim: The Department of Geography, 𝗦𝗶𝗸𝗸𝗶𝗺 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗦𝗔𝗨), Namchi, is set to organise the first edition of its 𝗚𝗲𝗼-𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 on the theme “𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.”

The Geo-Talk initiative aims to create an intellectual platform bringing together 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 to address contemporary environmental, social and population-related challenges. The series will explore issues ranging from climate and environmental change to socio-cultural concerns, disaster management, human-wildlife conflict, resource management, traditional knowledge, agriculture, ethnicity, population growth and innovation.

The first session will focus on the growing impact of 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵. The discussion will bring together perspectives from geography, environmental science, demography, statistics, epidemiology and public health to develop a more comprehensive understanding of emerging population-health challenges.

The session will feature 𝗟𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗮, Ph.D. Scholar (SRF), Department of Population and Development, 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗜𝗜𝗣𝗦), 𝗠𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗶, as the speaker.
