Communication Department Celebrates World Photography Day with Special Talk

Namchi, August 19: The Department of Mass Communication, Sikkim Government College (SGC), Namchi, organised a special talk on the occasion of World Photography Day on August 19, 2026, at the college hall. The session featured Mr. Amon Rai and Manish Chettri of Filmngo, who shared their experiences and practical insights into photography, filmmaking and the creative media industry.
The programme was organised to provide students with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge about photography and filmmaking and to understand their significance as tools of communication, storytelling and creative expression.
The session began with the introduction of the guest speakers and their professional work in the media field. The speakers shared their experiences and discussed the various possibilities of photography and filmmaking.
They highlighted how photography can serve as a powerful tool for communication, documentation, storytelling and visual expression.
The interactive session also provided students with insights into the practical aspects of working in the creative media industry. Drawing from their professional experiences, the speakers discussed the skills and creative approaches required in photography and filmmaking. They encouraged students to explore their creativity, develop practical skills and consider opportunities in photography, filmmaking and other areas of media production.
The Head of the Department, Dr. Cherrila W. Bhutia, introduced the guest speakers and welcomed them to the programme. She highlighted the importance of such interactions in providing students with practical exposure and opportunities to learn from professionals working in the media and creative industries.
The session proved to be an informative and engaging learning experience for the students.
