ORS Week celebrated by AOP Nagpur

Indian Academy of Pediatrics celebrates Oral Rehydration Solution(ORS) Week all over India every year in the last week of July to highlight the importance of ORS in childhood diarrhoeas..
This year, Academy of Pediatrics (AOP) Nagpur, headed by Dr Shubhada Khirwadkar celebrated the ORS Day (29th July) & ORS week through many projects & programs to help the different sections of the community (students, parents, paramedics, health workers & rural & urban society at large) to know more about use of ORS & how & why ORS is considered the 'Health Drink for Diarrhoea' in children.

Posters on ORS were pasted on Cars & ambulances of various hospitals making them the messengers for ORS use.

ORS Warriors
Pediatricians, IMA & AOP Nagpur members participated in 'Passing the baton of ORS by warriors' project in IMA premises & busy areas in the city.

Decorate your ORS Corner Contest
Pediatric clinics also decorated an "ORS corner" in their waiting rooms & conducted sessions with parents & hospital staff on how to make & use ORS.
Health workers, nurses in pediatric hospitals, Govt & corporate Hospitals in all nooks & corners of the city made in-house educative posters for walls & drew daily rangolis on ORS theme in clinics for community education.

AOP Nagpur conducted an individual Poster, Rangoli, Best ORS Corner & Slogan contests nursing staff & students of various colleges & for students of rural schools to create awareness about ORS.
More than 100 entries for these contests speaks of the great enthusiasm among participants. There will be online prize distribution ceremony on 16th August.

Mega poster exhibition on ORS at various institutions
In Lata Mangeshkar hospital medical students participated in a So did Colours Hospital & Matru sewa Sangh , Sitabuildi; while ESIS Hospital conducted an ORS Rangoli contest.
Under the guidance of Medical Superintendent Dr Gawande a poster exhibition for community education was arranged in Govt Medical College, Nagpur.

Community Education Programs
Many pediatric & Multi specialty hospitals & pediatricians conducted community education programs on a large scale.

To highlight the importance of ORS in monsoon diarrhoeal diseases & provide information about water, food & vector borne monsoon diseases in children, pediatrician members conducted an online session with different parent groups.

AOP ORS School Quiz forSince students need to have good knowledge of sanitation, hygiene & ORS, an online "ORS Quiz" was conducted for middle & high school students of 5 different schools (SOS branches, DPS, Tip Top Convent, VSPM nursing school). More than 800 students participated live on different days & answered questions on a Google form provided to them live online.

Telecast of a Magic Show video on ORS
An added attraction for schools was an interesting Magic show videofor schools with messages on use of ORS & its preparation.

Most of the contests were conducted online & participants ensured all Covid safety precautions.

ORS पोवाडा
The Highlight of ORS Day (29th July) was the online release of "ORS powada" (written by Dr Shubhada Khirwadkar & sung by Dr Vishrut Panhekar; chorus by Dr Shubhada & Dr Vasant Khalatkar) at the hands of National President of IAP Dr Bakul Parekh, Secy Dr Basavaraj, VP Dr Dabhadkar, MAHA IAP president Dr Pandharikar, EBM Dr Raut, Patron of AOP Nagpur Dr Uday Bodhankar & a host of office bearers & members. The powada video has a large number of pediatric fraternity-
"ORS Warriors in action" in their clinics imparting community education on ORS.
The catchy tune of Powada & narration of the fighting spirit of ORS has been hugely appreciated by all!

ORS पोवाडा goes viral in rural community through ASHAs
It has now been circulated through rural & urban health workers (ASHA) for percolating the knowledge to the community at large.

A novel Doctor's Day Celebration by AOP Nagpur

Doctors as working hard as frontline warriors in their fight against Covid. They are also sharpening their clinical skills through many Academic Webinars.
However, they need to relax & unwind too!
Academy of Pediatrics (AOP) celebrated Doctor's Day 2020 in a novel way this year by conducting a fun webinar for its members !
An event titled "Unlocking Hidden Talent of AOP Nagpur" was conducted on a virtual platform. 26 pediatricians, young & not so young , presented songs, ghazals, whistle song, Tabla performance, poetry, dances, Rangolis, Cooking skills, Yoga, paintings, sketches, Wild life & Nature photography, doodling & flower arrangements in form of short videos. Everyone appreciated & enjoyed the multidimensional talents exhibited by the medical fraternity! President of AOP Nagpur Dr Shubhada Khirwadkar conceptualized & conducted the program with excellent support from coordinators & anchors Dr Meena Deshmukh & Dr Sanjay Deshmukh. Dr Kirtish Balpande was the technical advisor. Dr Mustafa Ali, secretary, AOP Nagpur has thanked the members for their enthusiastic participation in the event.
