Rohit lived in Delhi, a city full of dreams, noise, and endless crowds. He worked as a data analyst in a private company. On paper, his life was perfect. He had a good job, a loving family, and a comfortable lifestyle.
Yet, every morning felt the same. Wake up, go to work, return home, sleep, and repeat. Deep inside, he felt an emptiness that he couldn't explain. He often wondered, "Why am I unhappy when I already have everything?"
One evening, while scrolling through Instagram, he saw people travelling, laughing, and enjoying life. Suddenly, he decided to take a break from his routine. Without telling many people, he booked a ticket to Shillong, Meghalaya.
After reaching Guwahati, he hired a taxi to Shillong. As the car climbed the winding roads through the hills, he was mesmerized by the lush green forests, waterfalls, and fresh mountain air. It felt like nature was welcoming him.
The next morning, he hiked to a nearby mountain. Standing at the top, he watched the clouds float beneath him. For nearly two hours, he sat there in complete silence. He didn't check his phone. He didn't take a single photograph. He simply enjoyed the moment.
For the first time in years, his mind was quiet.
He finally understood what had been missing. It wasn't money, success, or adventure. It was peace. He had been living on autopilot, surviving every day instead of truly living.
The following morning, dark clouds covered the sky, and heavy rain began to fall. Rohit opened his umbrella and started walking down the mountain.
Suddenly, he heard tiny cries near a small lake beside the road. Three baby rabbits had been swept into the fast-flowing water by the rain.
Without thinking about himself, Rohit jumped into the shallow stream. The current was strong, but he managed to save two rabbits. Sadly, despite all his efforts, he couldn't save the third one.
Holding the two frightened rabbits close to his chest, he carried them back to his hotel. He dried them with a towel, gave them warmth, and fed them carefully. Watching them slowly recover filled his heart with a happiness he had never experienced before.
That night, he realized something even more important.
"Real happiness comes when we care for someone other than ourselves."
The rain stopped the next day. Rohit knew the rabbits belonged in the wild, not in a cage. Although he had grown attached to them, he gently carried them back to the forest where they would be safe.
As he released them, the two rabbits paused for a moment, looked back at him, and then disappeared into the trees.
Rohit smiled.
He didn't bring the rabbits home, but he carried something far more valuable—a new way of living.
When he returned to Delhi, everything looked the same, but he was different. He stopped chasing a perfect life and started enjoying small moments. He spent more time with his family, explored new places on weekends, volunteered to help animals, and lived each day with gratitude instead of stress.
Sometimes, whenever work became overwhelming, he looked at the old umbrella he had carried in Shillong. It reminded him that life is not about rushing through every day.
It is about pausing, breathing, helping others, and finding peace within yourself.
The End.
