The Nowgong Law College (NLC), founded in 1970, is one of the oldest law college in Assam.

A two-day practical workshop titled “Legal Mastery – A Comprehensive Workshop for Legal Professionals and Future Lawyers” concluded in Guwahati on Sunday, March 15 aiming to bridge the gap between legal education and real-world courtroom practice.

Organised by Aadya Society Institute for Management and Legal Studies in collaboration with Nowgong Law College and North East ADR Solutions OPC Private Limited, the programme was held at New Arts Players Auditorium, Ambari.

The inaugural session on March 14 was attended by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court as Chief Guest and Justice (Retd.) B. P. Katakey as Guest of Honour. Speakers highlighted the need for practical exposure in legal training, especially for young advocates and law students.

The first day focused on civil litigation, covering drafting, trial procedures, and writ petitions, while the second day dealt with criminal law under new frameworks such as BNS, BNSS, and BSA, along with topics like bail, investigation, and trial advocacy.

The closing ceremony on March 15 featured Justice (Retd.) B. P. Katakey along with judicial officers Roushan Lal and Gitali Rabha, who addressed participants and shared insights on legal ethics and justice delivery. Certificates were distributed to attendees at the end of the programme.

The workshop saw participation from a large number of law students and young advocates from across Assam and the Northeast, with organisers expressing hope that such initiatives will strengthen practical legal skills and professional readiness among aspiring lawyers.
