CIIL CIIL, Central Institute of Indian Languages

Central institute of Indian languages was established to coordinate the
development of Indian languages, to bring about the essential unity of
Indian languages through scientific studies, promote inter-disciplinary
research, contribute to mutual enrichment of languages and thus contribute
towards emotional integration of the people of India. CIIL
- Advices and Assists Central as well as State Governments in the matters of language.
- Contributes to the development of all Indian Languages by creating content and corpus.
- Protects and Documents Minor, Minority and Tribal Languages.
- Promotes Linguistic harmony by teaching 15 Indian languages to non-native learners.

National Testing Service–India (NTS-I), CIIL, Mysuru in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education, West Bengal, is organising a 3-day Training-cum-Workshop on “Testing & Evaluation and Item Writing in Santali Language in the Light of NEP-2020” from 12–14 October 2026 at Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University, Jhargram, West Bengal.

The programme aims to strengthen competencies in language testing, evaluation and item writing in Santali, aligned with the objectives of NEP 2020.

The 2-Day National Seminar on “Convergence and Resulting Uniformity in the Usages and Patterns of Quantifiers and Qualifiers in Indian Languages with Special Reference to Cultural Heritage and NEP 2020” will be inaugurated today, 8 October 2026, at the V.I. Subramoniam ISDL Complex, Thiruvananthapuram.

Organised by the Dravidian Linguistic Association of India (DLA) in collaboration with CIIL, Mysuru, and ISDL, Thiruvananthapuram, the seminar brings together scholars to explore structural and lexical convergence in Indian languages and its significance for linguistic and cultural studies.

Scheme for Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages(SPPEL), initiated in 2013 by the Ministry of Education under the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru. SPPEL works to safeguard India’s vulnerable mother tongues through extensive language documentation, revitalization, and preservation efforts.
The project focuses on creating Grammars, Dictionaries, Primer and comprehensive ethnolinguistic profiles while capturing rich oral literature and folklore to ensure these unique cultural identities and endangered traditions are archived and revitalized for future generations.

The ongoing workshop for the finalisation of the South Munda Language Dictionary, organised under the Scheme for Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages (SPPEL), CIIL, Mysuru, is facilitating the documentation of the Didayi language. Didayi Language Resource Persons express linguistic concepts in their mother tongue to translators, interpreters and SPPEL Resource Persons, contributing to the systematic documentation and finalisation of the dictionary.
