🩺 Field Learning in Action!

As part of their RMNCH+A experiential learning, 2nd semester MPH students from the School of Public Health, JSS AHER, accompanied by the faculty Ms. Sheeba and Dr. Minu Maria Rose, visited the Community Health Centre (CHC), Jayanagar, Mysuru on May 12, 2025.
πŸ‘©βš•οΈ During the visit, students explored the infrastructure and key services provided by the CHC including maternal and child healthcare, immunization, diagnostics, family planning, and emergency services.
πŸ“‹ The students also conducted assessments using the Kayakalp and LaQshya checklists to evaluate hygiene, infection control, and quality of Labour room, maternal care and infrastructure.
πŸ—£οΈ The students also interacted with expectant mothers, visited the postnatal ward, and gained first-hand experience in public health delivery at the grassroots level.
🌱 Takeaway: Strengthening primary care through well-equipped and staffed CHCs is vital to improving health outcomes and achieving universal health coverage.

The School of Public Health team, JSS MC, JSS AHER, along with Dr. Prashant Vishwanath, Dean Research, JSS AHER, and esteemed faculty members from AHER, proudly participated in the three-day International β€œRISE for Healthy Aging” Longevity India Conference held from March 10–12, 2025, at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. This prestigious event brought together global experts, researchers, startups, and innovators to discuss cutting-edge advancements in healthy aging, longevity, and geriatric health. The conference featured talk sessions, panel discussions, poster presentations, and hands-on workshops, fostering a collaborative exchange of ideas.
Our team actively contributed to the event by setting up a stall, where we conducted wellness score assessments and InBody measurements for nearly 90 conference attendees. In addition, our members engaged in thought-provoking discussions, knowledge-sharing, and collaborations aimed at shaping the future of aging research and public health interventions.

The Longevity Awareness School Campaign, organized by Capstone Group-1 from the School of Public Health, JSS Medical College on 12th February 2025 at Government High School and Pre-University, Lakshmipuram, Mysuru. The campaign aimed to educate high school students on the importance of longevity and a healthy lifestyle through the concept of JSS Panchamantraβ€”Rest and Sleep, Diet, Physical Activity, Positive Mental Health, and Socialization. Engaging activities and interactive sessions helped students understand how these five principles contribute to overall well-being. The campaign proved to be a valuable experience in fostering health awareness among young students and encouraging them to adopt a balanced lifestyle.

An insightful session on β€œBeyond One Variable: Exploring Multivariate Analysis for Better Decision-making" at the JSS School of Public Health on February 13, 2025. The session was led by Mr. D H Panchaksharappa Gowda, an expert in inferential statistics and multivariate analysis, who provided in-depth knowledge of various advanced statistical techniques.

The session covered key topics such as factor analysis, cluster analysis and principal component analysis (PCA). Mr. D H Panchaksharappa Gowda explained how these techniques help in handling complex datasets, drawing meaningful insights, and improving decision-making in public health and research.

Grateful for this enriching learning experience and the opportunity to expand my analytical skills.

On 15 February 2025 third semester Capstone group 2 students from School of public health observed "National Donor Day" in Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Bannimantap, Mysore.
🌼 The primary goal of the awareness program was to educate the community on the importance of organ donation, dispel myths, and encourage individuals to register as organ donors.
A session was conducted by Capstone group 2 students explaining the concept of organ donation, its significance, and the legal aspects involved in India. Emphasis was placed on how organ donation can save multiple lives and improve the quality of life for those suffering from end-stage organ failure.
A Q&A session allowed participants to express their concerns and doubts about organ donation.
Visual aids, including posters and pamphlets, were displayed in the PHC premises to attract attention and provide easy-to-understand information. These materials included real-life stories of organ recipients and donors to inspire the audience.
A few participants showed interest in signing up as organ donors.
The session successfully raised awareness among the community members, with many expressing a newfound understanding of organ donation. Several participants showed interest in discussing the topic further with their families.
