Did you know that only around 15% of the students who appear for the GATE exams clear it every year? Statistics from the organising institutes also show that over 8,00,000 candidates appear every year for this exam.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and all the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), located at Madras, Bombay, Delhi, Roorkee, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Guwahati, are jointly the organising institutes for the GATE examinations. The operations related to GATE in these eight zones are managed by a zonal GATE Office at these institutes. Every year, one organising institute is responsible for the entire exam process and coordination.
Important Dates for GATE 2015
1. GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website opens September 1, 2014 at 00:00am
2. Last date for submission of online applications through GOAPS website October 1, 2014 at 11:59 pm
3. Last date for requesting change in the choice of examination city November 21, 2014
4. Availability of Admit Card on GOAPS for printing and downloading December 17, 2014
5. GATE 2015 online examinations at respective centres.
January 31, 2015; February 1, 7, 8 and 14, 2015
6. Announcement of results on the GOAPS website

Top 5 Things You Should Know about GATE 2015
It is essential for students to make a note of these features of the GATE exams for future reference and clarifications:
1. Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT). The examination will contain some numerical questions, which need to be answered by the candidates using a virtual keypad. The rest of the questions shall be in the form of multiple choice questions.
2. The GATE 2015 exam will be held on the weekends between January 31 and February 14, 2015. There will be two sessions on each of these days – one before noon and the other in the afternoon. Forenoon sessions will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and afternoon sessions will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
3. The entire process of filling up the application forms, uploading certificates and other ancillary documents can only be done online through the GOAPS. Hardcopies will not be accepted at the zonal offices.
4. The payment of application fees can be made through the GATE portal as well, using different modes, such as net banking, debit cards, credit cards or e-challans.
5. The admit cards would be available only through the online portal, from where they can be downloaded and printed.
The organising institute for GATE 2015 is IIT Kanpur.
