Raga Chakra of Hindustani has some variants which are distinct.

Whereas Southern Melakarta Raga Chart is little more exhaustive, with subtler variations and combinations.

For starters Raga is fixed Scale of Swaras (notes). And Musicians are required not to sing outside that scale, even in improvisation.
