Dr. Arathy Ram, who grew up in a Malayalam-medium school in a small village near Kollam, Kerala, is making waves in the world of science. She has recently won the prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship worth ₹26 crore. Earlier, she had also received the Marie Curie Fellowship worth ₹2.7 crore and worked with ISRO. Her journey from a small village school to international recognition shows that hard work and determination can break all barriers.
Currently, Dr. Ram is an Assistant Professor at the University of Bradford, UK. Her groundbreaking research focuses on creating battery-free medical implants that use the body's natural movements to generate power. This means devices like pacemakers and bone stimulators can work without traditional batteries or wires. Her work is opening up new possibilities in healthcare and technology, making treatments smarter and less invasive.
Dr. Ram is now pioneering a new field called Piezoelectroceutics, which combines physics and medicine. These smart materials can stimulate tissue regeneration and power medical devices without drugs or batteries. Her achievements inspire young minds everywhere, proving that with determination and innovation, even the biggest dreams can come true.
