Nabagram Amar Chand Kundu College celebrated “Sanskrit Divas” with great enthusiasm on 29 August 2026 at the college Seminar Hall. The event featured cultural activities, informative speeches, and interactive discussions. The programme was organized by the Sanskrit Depertment with the support of the IQAC. All the teachers and non-teaching staffs, along with a significant number of students, attended and actively participated in the programme. Respected teachers were also felicitated on the occasion.
The programme commenced at 12:00 noon with the lighting of the sacred lamp accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras. This was followed by a choral presentation of the National Song, “Vande Mataram,” and subsequently the National Anthem, “Jana Gana Mana.” Mrs. Pinaki Ghosh, Faculty member of Department of Political Science was the leading singer of both National Anthem and National Song.
In the opening session, Madhuri Chakraborty, faculty member of the Department of Sanskrit, recited the “Dhyeya Mantra” and spoke about the significance and richness of Sanskrit literature. Thereafter, Dr. Akhtar Hossain delivered a highly informative and relevant speech on Sanskrit as a classical language and discussed various methods for reviving and promoting the Sanskrit language. Dr. Sudipta Ghosh, Head of the Department of Bengali, also delivered an insightful speech on the origin and evolution of various languages from Sanskrit, highlighting the significant influence of Sanskrit on the development of Indian languages.
Following the speeches, Suman Mondal, faculty member of the Department of Education, presented a song based on Sanskrit. Two students, Sanjana Sarkar and Radha Das, performed a dance to a Sanskrit song. Soumi Ghosh, another student, also presented a Sanskrit song.
The cultural programme continued with presentations of Sanskrit Subhash*ta and Sanskrit storytelling by Supriya Ghosh, Kaliprasad Mondal, Smriti Ghosh, and Puja Pal. Two students, Rabeya Parvin and Somnath Mukherjee, delivered speeches highlighting the importance of the Sanskrit language.
The programme concluded with a Sanskrit short drama performed by the students under the guidance of Urmila Islam, faculty member of the Department of Sanskrit. The event ended with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the teachers, staff members, students, organizers, and participants who contributed to the successful celebration of Sanskrit Divas.
