Modern English Medium School is a low income private school located deep in the community called Kamraj Nagar, at Ghatkoper, Mumbai.

We are teaching a classroom of 114 kids studying in grade 10 this year (2017-2018).

In India, only 29% of students who enroll in class 9 go on to any form of tertiary education. Out of those who complete class 12, only 43% continue studying further. Often, students’ choice of streams in secondary school and college is constrained by a variety of factors including parent pressure (most engineers would agree :)), and lack of information. Students are largely unaware about what career options exist, and what they are best fit for. Career Guidance can fill this gap and enable students to make informed decisions on their future academic and/or professional path.

Over the last few years, you've probably seen a number of pictures of my Teach For India fellowship. The kids I taught are now in 10th grade, battling a number of career-related decisions such as choosing streams, applying for jobs etc.. Pooja Elizabeth Abraham, who has taken over my class now, is looking to raise some money for a Career Guidance programme for my 94 kids. It would great if you could take a few minutes to visit the link and share it with your close friends/colleagues and anyone else who might be able to help. I understand that contributing funds is a personal decision and hence do so only if you feel like it. :)

Help Us Light Our Torch Access to education is not a privilege, it’s a right. And yet, 61 million children are not in school, most of them girls. Educating children no matter where they are is one of the biggest steps we can take toward ending poverty. From a very young age, my students were told that they could be

" I Dance to Live
I Dance to breathe
I Dance to be free
I Dance to be me! "

In order to allow these students to pursue their passion, we enrolled 14 of them to learn dance professionally this year. This has been possible only because of the friends and supporters who made it possible for us to fund this initiative. A big Thank you to them.

If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.

" Opportunities don't happen, you create them."

In our effort to guide our school's grade 10 students with the same motto, we organized a career counselling session for them recently. We were fortunate to have Mr. Sachin, who works at a very responsible position in Godrej, conduct a superbly broken down session on how to choose a particular stream and made them aware of the various opportunities that are attached which they can pursue.
(In an attempt to help them focus their potential and lives on a path that leads them to independence and happiness. Fingers Crossed!)

P.S.- If anyone wants to do the same for their classroom, school or children, please let us know as we can get you in touch with him. Thank you. :)

Deloitte Impact Day!

Students from grade 5 to grade 9 participated in various activities organized by Deloitte in our school.
From selling invisible jacket to a talking dustbin, they learnt while having fun the art of advertising and presentation. They also brainstormed and spoke on various important issues one of them being health and nutrition and overcame their inhibitions thus speaking and expressing confidently.
We would like to thank Deloitte for coming down to our school and conducting such valuable and interesting activities.
We would love to have you all again. :)

Students feel empowered as they learn the art ( Quilling) ,
The art to create possibilities with limited availabilities
And so, do you see their smiles?
The smiles that clearly define-
The resolve to create what is not in their fate! :)
