Orientation Programme for Hostel Students (1st & 2nd Year) held on 24/08/2026 and 25/08/2026

Hostel Officials along with Members of Anti Ragging Committee and Squad conducted an Orientation Programme for Hostel Students (1st & 2nd Year) on 24/08/2026 and 25/08/2026. Dr. Suryakant Yadav, Hostel Warden while addressing the Hostel students underscored the harmful effects of ragging on students' mental and physical well-being and the legal consequences associated with it. Dr. Sunil Sarode, Hostel Warden and Member of Anti Ragging Committee also stressed the importance of creating awareness and educating students about the detrimental impact of ragging, encouraging everyone to be vigilant and being proactive in preventing such incidents.

Furthermore, as a part of the programme, Dr. Manoj Alagarajan, Chief Administrative Officer, Interim Charge, Member Anti ragging Committee and Mr. Sudrashan Bhadra Assistant Registrar Academic, Member Anti Ragging Committee addressed the students to maintain a ragging-free campus and to support their peers in the fight against this social evil. Students actively participated in the discussion. Ms. Anita S Dogra, Hostel Manager briefed the students on the Hostel and Mess Rules.

Inaugural Address at the 6th Annual Conference on Migration and Development at IIT Indore

Dr. Sanjay K. Mohanty, Director & Sr Professor, IIPS, delivered the inaugural address at the 6th Annual Conference on Migration and Development, held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore on 11–12 September.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Mohanty highlighted “Emerging Research Issues in Migration”, drawing attention to several critical and evolving dimensions of migration research. He identified demographic imbalances, economic and fiscal implications, migration and health, and migration and climate change as some of the key emerging areas that require greater scholarly attention.

Prof. Mohanty emphasised that while the overall contribution and impact of migration may appear relatively modest at the national level, its implications can be substantial at smaller geographic levels, particularly at the village, sub-district and district levels. He underscored the importance of examining migration through a more disaggregated spatial lens to better understand its demographic, economic, social, health and environmental consequences.

He further stressed the need for interdisciplinary research and robust evidence to understand the changing nature of migration and its implications for development planning and policy. The address highlighted the importance of linking migration research with broader issues of population change, regional disparities, labour markets, public health, social protection and environmental vulnerability.

On the occasion, Prof. Sanjay K. Mohanty was felicitated by Prof. Suhas Joshi, Director, IIT Indore, in recognition of his contribution to population studies and public health research.

Expert Panel Discussion | Revision of syllabus of the M.S. in Population Studies Programme

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, hosted the second round of the Expert Panel Discussion on the revision of the M.S. in Population Studies Programme on 28 August 2026, following the earlier internal panel discussion on the proposed curriculum.

Building on the legacy of the erstwhile M.P.S. programme, the proposed one-year M.S. programme comprises 14 Core Papers and 11 Elective Papers, with a focus on making the programme contemporary, relevant and future-ready.

The discussion brought together experts from academia, the development sector and data analysis, along with young and emerging voices, bringing diverse perspectives to the table.

The valuable suggestions and recommendations shared during the discussion will be carefully considered and incorporated, wherever appropriate, in the revised curriculum, with the aim of creating a programme that best serves the academic needs, interests and future aspirations of students.

A meaningful step towards strengthening and reimagining Population Studies education at IIPS.

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय जनसंख्या विज्ञान संस्थान की हिंदी छमाही पत्रिका "आईआईपीएस दर्पण" का विमोचन

संस्थान की हिंदी छमाही पत्रिका "आईआईपीएस दर्पण" का विमोचन संस्थान के 70वें स्थापना दिवस कार्यक्रम के शुभ अवसर पर निदेशक एवं वरिष्ठ प्रोफेसर डॉ. संजय के. मोहंती, राजभाषा कार्यान्वयन समिति के सदस्यों एवं संकाय सदस्यों द्वारा किया गया। यह पत्रिका संस्थान की गतिविधियों का दर्पण है और अब से प्रत्येक 6 माह में प्रकाशित होगी। इस अवसर पर उपस्थित जनों ने संस्थान के निदेशक एवं वरिष्ठ प्रोफेसर डॉ. संजय के. मोहंती के मार्गदर्शन में प्रकाशित छमाही पत्रिका "आईआईपीएस दर्पण" के लिए उन्हें बधाई देने के साथ ही हिंदी कक्ष के प्रभारी एवं हिंदी अधिकारी की सराहना भी की।

Launch of "IIPS DARPAN" - Hindi Half-yearly Magazine of IIPS

The Hindi half-yearly magazine of the institute, "IIPS DARPAN", was launched on the auspicious occasion of the 70th Foundation Day by Dr. Sanjay K. Mohanty, Director & Sr. Professor, along with members of the Official Language Implementation Committee and faculty members. This magazine is a mirror of the institute's activities and will now be published every 6 months. On this occasion, the members present congratulated the Institute’s Director and Senior Professor, Dr. Sanjay K. Mohanty, on the publication of the half-yearly magazine "IIPS DARPAN" under his guidance and also appreciated the efforts of the In-charge of the Hindi Cell and the Hindi Officer.

The 70th Foundation Day of the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai was celebrated on 21 August 2026 with great enthusiasm, pride, and togetherness.

The celebration began with Ganesh Vandana and Deep Prajwalan, marking an auspicious beginning. Prof. Sanjay K. Mohanty, Director and Senior Professor, welcomed the IIPS community and reaffirmed the Institute's commitment to nurturing students and strengthening IIPS as an inclusive, vibrant centre of excellence in population sciences.

Reflecting on the journey of 70 Years Together, Dr. Guru Vasishtha, Cultural Coordinator, highlighted seven glorious decades of excellence in education, research, and the contribution of generations of population scientists and policy planners towards nation-building.

A student-produced documentary showcased the collective efforts of faculty, staff, security personnel, mess workers, academic and ICT sections, and students in shaping the vibrant life of the IIPS campus. The event also featured colourful cultural performances, recognition of staff members' children's academic achievements by the Staff Welfare Committee, and the launch of the half-yearly Patrika - IIPS Darpan (October 2025–March 2026) by the Hindi Section.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by the General Secretary of the IIPS Students' Council, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this milestone occasion memorable.

Orientation Programme on Safe, Inclusive Campus Environment

On 20 August 2026, IIPS organized an Orientation Programme for students, staff, and faculty members to provide an overview of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and to highlight the importance of fostering a safe, inclusive, and gender-neutral workplace. The programme was inaugurated by the Director, followed by two informative lectures delivered by members of the Internal Committee on key provisions of the Act and the role and responsibilities of the Institute. A significant number of students, faculty members, and staff actively participated in the programme, reflecting the Institute’s commitment to promoting a safe, respectful, inclusive, and gender-neutral campus environment. The Internal Committee expressed its sincere appreciation to all sections of the Institute for their support and active participation in making the programme a success.

Independence Day Celebration at IIPS, Mumbai.

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. Students, faculty members, staff, and their family members came together for the hoisting of the National Flag, singing of the National Anthem, inspiring messages, and student orations.

Delivering the Independence Day address, Prof. Sanjay K. Mohanty, Director and Senior Professor, IIPS, emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving and safeguarding the freedom and progress of our nation. He highlighted India's remarkable economic growth and substantial reduction in poverty over the past two decades, describing these achievements as significant milestones in the country's development journey. He expressed the role of “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat @2047. He particularly mentioned the critical role of India's youth in nation-building and shaping the country's future.

Prof. Mohanty also highlighted the significant contribution of IIPS to teaching, research, and evidence-based policymaking in the areas of population, health, and development. He noted that the data generated through major national surveys such as the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI), and Global Adult To***co Survey (GATS) serve as foundation for health and population policies and valuable public good for researchers, policymakers, and society at large. These surveys are now indigenously designed implemented and funded. He further outlined several initiatives being undertaken at IIPS to strengthen teaching, promote high-quality research, foster innovation, and enhance the Institute's contribution to national development.

The celebrations reflected the unity, cultural diversity, patriotism, and collective spirit of the IIPS community, reaffirming the Institute's commitment to contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat @2047
