Proud Moment for ICAR-CIFE!
Heartiest congratulations to Ms. Shreya Awasthi, 1st-year M.F.Sc. student, Aquatic Environment and Health Management Division (AEHMD), ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, on winning the Gold Medal and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh in a national essay competition organized by the CLFMA of India.
Essay: “Sustainable Aquaculture Practices for Improving Productivity and Profitability: A Species-Specific Analysis”
The award was presented during 67th National Symposium and 59th annual general meeting of The Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association (CLFMA) on Indian Livestock Sector (Aqua), held on 11-12th September 2026 at The Leela in Mumbai in the presence of Dr. Muthukumarasamy B., Joint Secretary (NLM), Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India; Shri Divya Kumar Gulati, Chairman, CLFMA of India and Prof. Dr. Ajit S. Ranade, Head, Technical Committee, CLFMA of India.

Strengthening Laboratory Quality through NABL Gunvatta Yatra

ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE), Kolkata Centre, organised an NABL Accreditation Awareness Programme under the “Gunvatta Yatra” initiative to promote quality-driven laboratory practices and enhance awareness on accreditation requirements.

Dr. T. K. Ghoshal, Head, ICAR-CIFE Kolkata Centre, emphasised the importance of establishing robust laboratory systems and pursuing accreditation to ensure reliable testing services and quality assurance.

Mrs. Malancha Das, Deputy Director, NABL, Kolkata, and Mr. Tapas Ranjan Nath, Analyst, Quality Council of India, provided valuable insights into NABL accreditation standards, quality management practices, and the accreditation process.

The programme witnessed active participation from scientific, technical, and project staff of the Centre. The interactive sessions strengthened the understanding of laboratory quality frameworks and motivated participants towards achieving excellence in laboratory operations and accreditation.

🐟 **Empowering Fish Farmers through Scientific Carp Polyculture**

ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE), Mumbai, through its Kolkata Centre, organized an Extension Programme on **Technical Guidance and Aquaculture Critical Input Distribution** at Sunpura, Lohit District, Arunachal Pradesh, on **14 September 2026**, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.

Under the **“Farmers into Research”** initiative, **25 tribal fish farmers, including 4 women**, received technical guidance and critical aquaculture inputs comprising fingerlings of **rohu, catla, mrigal and silver barb**, along with pelleted floating feed.

The programme aims to demonstrate scientific carp polyculture practices, enhance fish productivity and farm income, and strengthen the livelihoods of fish farmers in the region.

Ms. Nwe Mar Aye, ASEAN Fellowship Student at ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE), Mumbai, represented the Institute at the 9th ASEAN–India Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry (AIMMAF) held on 9 September 2026 at NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi.

The programme brought together Ministers and Heads of Delegation from ASEAN Member States and India, along with scientists, researchers and students, providing a valuable platform for strengthening ASEAN–India cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors.

Her participation reflects CIFE’s growing international academic engagement and its commitment to fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration and sustainable development. 🌱🐟🌏

Awareness Programme on ABI & Ksh*tij 2.0 🌱🚀

An Awareness Programme on the Agribusiness Incubation (ABI) and Ksh*tij 2.0 initiatives under ABI & CEFED, ICAR-CIFE was organised on 13 August 2026 at the Neotia School of Fisheries, The Neotia University, Sarisa, Diamond Harbour, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

Around 100 students and faculty members actively participated in the programme. The participants were sensitized about the ABI incubation programmes, entrepreneurship opportunities, innovation support, and startup ecosystem in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

Students were also encouraged to register for Ksh*tij 2.0, providing them with an opportunity to explore innovative ideas and develop their entrepreneurial potential through the support of ICAR-CIFE’s incubation ecosystem.

The programme aimed to inspire young minds to transform innovative ideas into impactful entrepreneurial ventures in the fisheries sector.
