Tata Institute of Social Sciences inaugurated the ITEC–TISS International Certificate Programme on ‘Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation for Health Workers’, welcoming 26 participants from various countries for a dynamic two-week academic engagement.

Scheduled from 4 March to 17 March 2026, the programme is organised under the Government of India’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative. It aims to equip frontline health workers with essential knowledge and practical competencies to address drug addiction through a comprehensive biopsychosocial framework, with a strong focus on evidence-based interventions and inclusive rehabilitation practices.

In her inaugural address, Prof. Madhushree Sekher (Chairperson, Office for International Affairs, TISS) underscored how such initiatives strengthen India’s global partnerships while fostering meaningful platforms for peer learning and sustained international collaboration.

Mr. Mohamed Rashid, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Maldives, who is currently at the TISS campus to participate in the ITEC programme, interacted with Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of TISS. He expressed his appreciation to the Government of India for initiatives like the ITEC Programme and to TISS for hosting this important capacity-building platform.

Prof. Tiwari emphasised that such initiatives represent a significant step towards advancing global social development through shared knowledge, mutual learning, and international cooperation.
