We had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Summer Camp at HappyMinds with children aged 4–6. The session focused on helping young learners think critically, organise their thoughts, and communicate their ideas in a clear and confident way. From creative responses to delightful little presentations, the children amazed us with their enthusiasm and imagination. It was a joyful session filled with learning, collaboration, and lots of expression!

Most kids don’t struggle with grammar—
they struggle with translation.

They think in one language…
and convert it into English.
That’s where fluency breaks.

Research in Psycholinguistics shows—
fluent speakers don’t translate,
they use ready sentence patterns.

So instead of correcting words…
give better sentence beginnings.

Because fluency is built in patterns, not perfection.

Reading matters. A lot.
But strong language skills don’t come from books alone.

Research in child development shows that children build language through interaction, not just exposure.
The back-and-forth of conversation—what experts call serve and return (highlighted by the Harvard Center on the Developing Child)—is what actually strengthens thinking, vocabulary, and expression.

In simple terms—
A book introduces language.
But a conversation activates it.

And in today’s world—especially with AI—
children who can frame thoughts clearly, ask better questions, and express ideas confidently will always have an edge.

So no, this doesn’t mean “don’t read.”
It means—don’t stop there.
