A Kansas man who robbed a bank last September and told police that he was hoping to get caught so he would get prison time to escape his wife was sentenced Tuesday to six months of home confinement after pleading guilty, the Kansas City Star reported.
Lawrence John Ripple took the guilty plea in January. He told the judge Tuesday that he had heart surgery that left him depressed when he committed the bank robbery, the paper reported.
His public defender told the court that Ripple had lived a law-abiding life and was in a stable relationship with his wife. He has four stepchildren, the report said.

Hot or spicy is not a taste
Technically, this is just a pain signal sent by the nerves that transmit touch and temperature sensations. The substance “capsaicin” in foods seasoned with chili causes a sensation of pain and heat.

Military working dogs hold a special place in the hearts of the troops who work with them. In a practical sense, they’re treated with the same honor and respect as any other troop.
They have a ceremony when they receive awards and are buried with military honors. They hold a rank, and as tradition dictates, one higher than their handler. It’s a tongue-in-cheek custom to ensure the handler treats them properly while giving the working dog some leeway to be a dog if they ever disobey an order.

In Chuck Palahniuk’s 2002 novel Lullaby, he writes, “Most of the laugh tracks on television were recorded in the early 1950s. These days, most of the people you hear laughing are dead.” That’s profound, but probably not true, since TV audio engineers have been updating their reels continuously. There were times when canned laughter was so predictable, anyone in the business could predict which laugh would come next on any given show. But now it seems that the laugh track itself that may soon rest in peace.

Meet Dain Yoon, a 22-year-old artist from South Korea with over 28,000 followers on Instagram. Using a combination of makeup and paint, Yoon creates seemingly-real optical illusions on her face and hands.
She had always been interested in people and how many often judge someone based on looks or their "cover."
"I have discovered that different people resonate different first impressions and they indeed change as I study them further," she explained in an interview. "I realized that what I see on the surface does not merely suffice every perspective about them."
In order to show how people are multi-dimensional and more than just how they look from a quick glance, Yoon started to paint trippy, 3-D looks onto herself.

Right now, there are thousands of mites on your face. They’re microscopic but closely related to spiders and ticks. And despite your reaction to hearing this news, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you.
“99.9 percent of humans carry them,” says Ron Ochoa, a mite scientist at the US Department of Agriculture. They’re most abundant on our faces, but live in the hair follicles all over our bodies, and a single person may harbor more than one million of them in total.
99.9 PERCENT OF HUMANS CARRY FACE MITES
During the day, the animals stay hidden in your follicles, feeding on oils naturally secreted by your glands. At night, they use their stubby legs to climb to the surface to find mates.
