Beginning the new academic session with wellness, mindfulness, and togetherness.

On 23 June 2026, TISS marked International Day of Yoga 2026 with an inspiring celebration centred on this year’s theme, *“Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”* The event was attended by Chief Guest Yogacharya Shri Shrikrushna Mhaskar, along with Prof. M. Mariappan (Dean, Students’ Affairs) and Dr. Vaishali Kolhe (Associate Dean, Students’ Affairs).

Bringing together over 70 students, faculty members, and staff, the celebration reflected a shared commitment to holistic well-being and healthy living. Participants engaged in a guided yoga session led by Swati Nigade and Trilochan Behra (Yoga Instructors, TISS), exploring the benefits of yoga for physical, mental, and emotional health.

A special highlight of the programme was the artistic yoga performance by students of Rajaram Sport Academy, whose discipline, flexibility, and creativity captivated the audience and beautifully showcased the transformative power of yoga.

As we embark on a new academic year, TISS reaffirms its commitment to fostering a healthy, balanced, and inclusive campus culture—one that encourages well-being, resilience, and mindful living for all.

Congratulations to Prof. Samapti Guha (Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, School of Management and Labour Studies, TISS Mumbai) on the publication of Economics of Development Looking through Environmental and Behavioural Lens, co-edited with Prof. Chirodip Majumdar and published by Routledge.

Published in honour of Prof. Gautam Gupta of Jadavpur University, the edited volume brings together eminent scholars to examine contemporary development challenges through the interconnected perspectives of development economics, behavioural economics and environmental economics.

The book addresses a wide range of issues, including financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, human behaviour and environmental policy, urban governance, food systems, the development of disadvantaged communities, and the socio-economic and political dimensions of energy and the environment. It also explores the relevance of several Sustainable Development Goals, including Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

By connecting global development concerns with local realities, the volume offers valuable interdisciplinary insights for scholars, researchers, policymakers and development practitioners working towards sustainable and inclusive development.

We congratulate Prof. Guha and Prof. Majumdar on this significant academic achievement and wish the publication every success.

Rehabilitation requires more than confinement—it requires opportunity.

A recent Times of India feature highlights how vocational training programmes can support incarcerated individuals in rebuilding their lives through meaningful skills and employment pathways. Since March 2021, the JSW Dulux Academy initiative, implemented in collaboration with Prayas (a Field Action Project of TISS), has been contributing to this effort across prisons in Maharashtra, with further expansion planned.

At TISS, we remain committed to advancing evidence-based approaches that promote rehabilitation, inclusion and social justice.
