To promote equity in education and encourage greater participation of students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education has issued print advertisements in underperforming districts of Uttar Pradesh and across all North Eastern States to spread awareness about the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS).

The Central Sector Scheme – NMMSS aims to arrest dropout at the Class VIII level and motivate meritorious students from EWS backgrounds to continue their education up to the secondary stage by awarding them scholarships. Every year, 1 lakh fresh scholarships are awarded to eligible students of Class IX, selected through State/UT-level examinations.

The scholarship provides ₹12,000 per annum to students studying in State Government, Government-aided and Local Body schools, supporting their educational journey and strengthening access to quality education for all.
