Two ES grades found two new ways of exploring art.

Grade 1 students got their hands on stoneware clay, learning to roll, coil, and work through the challenges of a new material. As one student discovered, “It gets easier the more you do it.”

In Grade 2, students explored color through line drawings and liquid watercolors, mixing primary colors to create secondary colors.

Across both experiences, students are learning that making art is as much about understanding materials as it is about the finished piece. Sometimes that means experimenting, adjusting, and getting a little messy along the way.

What can a movement say before words are spoken?

Working with returning theater artist Mark Hill, ASB Middle and High School students explored that question through Butoh and Viewpoints, discovering how their bodies and the space around them could shape a performance.

As they experimented together, each student’s choices gave other students something to respond to, allowing everyone’s ideas to develop into a shared piece of theater.

Mark calls his physical approach “sport for the creative,” bringing a sense of play to the work he has shared with ASB students for more than 15 years.

The first Class of 2027 celebration.

Senior Breakfast opens the arc of the senior experience at ASB: a year marked by traditions and shared moments that will eventually lead this class to graduation.

Seniors and their teachers gathered over an incredible breakfast sent in by families, and heard from four speakers chosen by the class. The two student speakers reflected on arriving at ASB as newcomers and finding a class that welcomed them in. Their teachers shared stories and reflections of their own, capturing both the character of this group and the relationships they have built together.

There was a warmth to the morning that felt true to this class and to the community that has formed around them.

There will be many more senior moments between now and graduation. This was where they began.

There’s a lot to navigate when your family is new to a school, and for many of our families, new to Mumbai as well.

Our PCA New Parent Welcome morning created space to talk about that transition. Families learned about the support available at ASB, from counselors and Grade Level Representatives to practical resources for settling into school and life in Mumbai.

The diversity of their journeys to Mumbai was visible on a world map, where families pinned the countries they had come from. By the end of the morning, pins stretched across continents, tracing many different paths to ASB.

Starting at a new school is a process. Five weeks into the new school year, we want our families to know they don’t have to figure it all out at once, or on their own.

A new unit is underway in Grade 4/5!

Students kicked off How We Organize Ourselves with a provocation around government: what it looks like, how it works, and the role it plays in people’s lives.

From different forms of government to the ways decisions are made, students are beginning to unpack how societies organize themselves and what that means for the people who live within them.

These first conversations give students a chance to share what they already know, challenge some of their assumptions, and set the stage for where the learning goes next.

ASB’s Teachers’ Day began a little differently this morning. Across both campuses, our PCA hosted breakfast for faculty and staff, along with goodie bags marking ASB’s 45th year.

It was a welcome start to the day and an opportunity to recognize the educators and staff whose work, expertise, and commitment shape the experience of our students every day.

Our thanks to the PCA for bringing everyone together this morning, and a very Happy Teachers’ Day to our ASB faculty and staff.

What does learning look like in a Middle or High School classroom at ASB?

Our Year Ahead Welcome Sessions today invited parents into that conversation.

Following their child’s schedule from class to class, parents met teachers and heard about the curriculum, approaches to teaching and learning, assessment practices, and the experiences students will encounter throughout the year.

It was an opportunity to understand some of the thinking behind the learning from our teachers: how their courses are designed, what they would want students to know and be able to do, and how their students will be challenged and supported as they grow.

This morning’s session got our parents to look beyond their child’s class schedule and into the learning that will shape the year ahead for our Secondary School students.

A glimpse into the school day, from your child’s point of view.

Our Elementary Chai Chat Check-Ins are underway, welcoming parents and caregivers to campus in small groups for a more personal look at learning and life at ASB.

For our younger grades, that means joining their children for Morning Meeting and experiencing firsthand how students begin their day: building community, revisiting learning, and getting ready for the day ahead. Families also spend time with teachers, explore grade-level learning, ask questions, and better understand the routines and experiences that shape their child’s time at school.

And, of course, there’s chai, coffee, and time to connect with other parents along the way.

Which House will it be?

House Sorting is always a big moment in the ASB Middle School. Last week, our new students and teachers discovered whether they’ll be Blue, Green, Red, or Yellow, joining a team that combines Eagles from across grades 6-8.

Throughout the year, Houses will compete in challenges and events, earn points, build some serious House pride, and work toward the ultimate prize: the House Cup.

But the competition is only part of it. Houses give students an additional circle of community within Middle School, creating friendships, connections, and plenty of shared experiences across grades.

The sorting is now complete. Game on!
