The K.J. Somaiya Medical college was envisioned as a space that allows for uninterrupted student movement through the building, a place for students to pause around its plaza for chanced social interactions. The plaza is centered around two majestic Banyan trees at the site. Programs of culture in the form of an amphitheater, leisure in the form of a café and canteen are curated along the student journey. The vertical stacking of the building allows for various voids around the building mass in the form of overlooking decks and voids. The green terraces extend spaces such as library and faculty offices to form a soft relation with the sky and create a cooling micro-climate. The single loaded corridors around the plaza on all floors are connected with twin straight flight stairs that allow for dynamic movement and visual connects across the floors of learning programs such as Laboratories and lecture rooms.

Healing Vertical Gardens in Bangalore

Integrated terraced garden systems transform hospital architecture by applying biophilic design principles, fostering therapeutic landscapes that support faster patient recovery. These gardens help counteract urban heat island effects, offer natural sound insulation from busy roads, and enhance indoor air quality through green filtration. Tailored to Bangalore’s moderate tropical climate, they also improve building performance while creating healing-focused spatial experiences.

The new KJSIMSR library is being transformed into a place for exchange of information, collaboration of ideas and creation of knowledge. The library celebrates the production of knowledge in the ever changing age of information and data.

Samasthana:
The screen house is situated within a residential school campus in Ballari, Karnataka. The idea was to form enclosures of varying levels of privacy towards the exterior with an interior that has different interconnected spaces interspersed with open spaces. Landscaped courtyards and terraces are integral to every space within the layers; walls are used as elements of surprise and enclosure; movement brings together various interspersed volumes within. Thanking our wonderful friends and educators Sucharita and Prabhuraj Jahagirdar who gave us this opportunity to design their home within their unique school campus.
