Just today (Nov 30, 2013), at the Colaba Causeway, I saw two young adult women riding on a scooter, travelling towards Regal Cinema, at may be 30-35 kmph. Their scooter skidded, and fell on the cement concrete road with a loud thudding noise.

Two women cops, sitting across the street, saw them, and one of them rushed to pick them up. The other was to get up as well, but realized she has a rather outsized gun with her and she could not just leave it behind, so she stayed back. By that time, the two women were inquired about and comforted by the passers-by, all of them men. The lady cop, along with the passers-by, stayed on with the girls, and made sure the girls were good to get back on their feet. Their injury, miraculously, wasn't serious. The women riding on the bike were not wearing a helmet, but they were not hounded for a bribe to let them go, or fined by the cops because of that. They were instead helped, both by the cops and by the passers-by.

This, especially coming on the back of two Traffic Cops helping out Vinod Kambli, when he suffered a heart attack while driving, felt good. It felt good to see the much maligned creed of cops rising to an occasion (albeit small) and helping out some common people in distress. It also felt good to see, that they had the presence of mind to not leave their weapon behind while attending a distress call. It comes as a whiff of fresh air, when all you can see is non-stop ultra-cynical news, ruling in the media.
