The SCI lays great emphasis on training and re-training its personnel. To meet the training requirements of fleet and shore personnel who currently number over 8000, the Maritime Training Institute (MTI) was set up in 1987. The official inauguration was on 26th Sept 1988. The SCI was the only shipping company that had set up a training facility on this scale at that time. With the International Co

nvention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended in 1995 and 2010 coming into force, and the adoption of the ISM Code in 1994, training is not purely knowledge-based but also competence based. MTI is doing its best to impart competence-based training. The MTI has already received the distinction of being recognized as a branch of the WORLD MARITIME UNIVERSITY, Malmo (Sweden) for conducting IMO seminars and specialized courses in India for the countries of Asia and Pacific Region. The SCI has also come to an understanding with the UNCTAD and have started conducting TRAINMAR courses at the Institute. The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) lays great emphasis on training and re-training of maritime personnel. SCI has recently established a training institute at Tuticorin in collaboration with V.O.C. SCI, through its training Institutes (MTI – Powai and Tuticorin) has contributed significantly in emergence of our country as an advanced seafaring nation and has the vision to continue it. All pre-sea courses of MTI, Diploma in Nautical Science Course (DNS) and Graduate Mechanical Engineers Course (GME) are rated as A-1 (Outstanding) as per the CIP (Comprehensive Inspection Program) of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) Govt. of India. MTI, with its best in class faculties, has been awarded with various prestige awards from reputed organizations, such as GOLDEN PEACOCK AWARD (1997), MARITIME GATEWAY AWARD (Sep 2016), and SAMUDRA MANTHAN AWARD (Dec 2016). Being a pioneer in the marine training sector, MTI is enthusiastic to cater to the various facets of the training in Marine sector, such as Shipping management, engineering and navigation. On demand of the industry, MTI has introduced new courses, such as MBA (SHIPPING MANAGEMENT), WELDING course, SAFETY INVESTIGATION into MARINE CASUALTIES, CROWD MANAGEMENT, CRISIS MANAGEMENT, Management course in SHIP SUPERINTENDENCY and commits to keep innovating for new courses from time to time to meet the training needs of the industry and nation. SCI MTI has also commenced Competency courses - Second Mate Function Course and Chief Mate Phase-I & Phase-II and will soon be starting MEO Class-IV and Class-I.

Online Admission Applications are invited from the candidates, who are qualified in the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU) on 04th January, 2020.
