The most impressive internship isn’t always the one with the biggest name.
For high school students, a “basic” job can sometimes teach far more than a prestigious internship where they’re mostly observing from the sidelines.
👉 Working in a grocery store, at a front desk, in retail or in a restaurant means dealing with real people, real expectations and real responsibility.
✔️ You learn to show up on time.
✔️ Handle difficult situations.
✔️ Communicate with adults.
✔️ Work when you don’t feel like it.
✔️ Earn and understand the value of your own money.
✔️ Balance work with school and everything else.
And those experiences matter.
When we work with students on building their profiles and preparing for university, we are far more interested in what an experience taught them than how impressive the name looks on paper.
🟢 What did you actually do?
🟢 What responsibility did you have?
🟢 What challenged you?
🟢 How did you grow?
That’s where the real story is.
So if you’re a student spending your summer behind a counter, stocking shelves, answering phones or serving customers, don’t underestimate what you’re building.
Do the job well.
Pay attention.
Learn from it.
The experience may be more valuable than you think. 👌
